Record Store Day

Tomorrow is the 2nd annual Record Store Day. For those not familiar, Record Store Day is the one day where independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases are made available exclusively for this day.

Several local valley record stores are participating in the event including Zia Records, Stinkweeds, Hoodlums, and more. For a full list of record stores around the valley and state wide who are participating in the Record Store Day festivities click here.

Each of the participating record stores have a slew of festivities lined up for the day from free food, free shwag, and live music. Stinkweeds in particular has a very impressive line-up of local musicians performing at their store tomorrow including Courtney Marie Andrews, Back Ted N-Ted, Fatigo, and Gospel Claws among others.

On top of all the free goodies and live music there are the uber rare and exclusive music that is available for purchase. Inventory will vary from store to store so be sure to check out your local records stores website for a list of what to expect but from what has already been announced you can expect to find music for purchase from Blitzen Trapper, Cursive, Silversun Pickups, Tom Waits, Iron and Wine, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and a whole lot more.

But it's not just exclusive vinyl that you'll be able to pick up. Also out tomorrow is the DVD release of Wilco's Ashes of America Flags. Personally, I'm excited about the compilation CD Phoenix: We Love It. This compilation features some of Phoenix's best local musical acts.

Tomorrow should be a good time for all and a great opportunity for you to support your local record store.
