Death Cab for Cutie & Frightened Rabbit @ Comerica Theatre 8/15/2011

Death Cab for Cutie

I was pleased as punch back when this show was announced to see that Death Cab "hand picked" Frightened Rabbit to open for them on this tour. I really like them and the songs that they sing but I totally missed them when they played at the Clubhouse a while back. I really hate the Clubhouse and I am pretty sure that Frightened Rabbit do to. Scott Hutchison made a special point the call out the Clubhouse as the venue for one of their previous really shitty shows in Phoenix. Guess I didn't miss much. Again, I was very pleased, this time by the live performance of several of their songs. They played them with skill and aplomb and I appreciate when a band really puts in that extra "E" for effort, especially when they are the "opening" band. Can't wait to see them again next time around.

Ben Gibbard made it known how pleased he was with their choice to play an indoor venue this time around. Last time they played here it was as Mesa Amp, a fine venue on most accounts aside from the fact that it's outside and it's August. So I wholeheartedly agree and metaphorically join Death Cab on their literally self administered pats on the back. Death Cab put on a pretty spectacular show as far as spectacular shows go. I have been to several rock concerts at Comerica (formerly Dodge) Theatre over the years and this one ranks 3rd, right behind Gorillaz and Arcade Fire, not to shabby right? I DID make a poor decision when I chose GA standing room only seats rather than an actual seat. Camera bags are heavy and they played a really really long time. Two hours is a long show right? It was a great show but I wish I had a stool or something after about 20 minutes.

The cool thing about DCFC is that they play all their good stuff. They only played 4 songs off their new album out of 23 songs. That is really nice of them to be so considerate of people that may not have listened to their new album over and over and over again the day of the show to make sure they were familiar with their new album. I don't know who wouldn't have done that to prepare but I guess some people just don't want to give 110% to the concert they are attending, it's sad. Check out this slide show I made from scratch out of freshly picked photos from my photo garden.

Death Cab For Cutie Coming To Phoenix... Comerica 8/15

Even though I don't like them as much as I used to, I still like them a whole heck of a lot. So I will most def be at this show. Unless I die or something. So if I DO die, please reference this post as a classic example of why you should always knock on wood.

Death Cab For Cutie "Some Boys"

It's going to take a lot worse than this to get me to not like Death Cab For Cutie anymore. They will probably never be as good as they were before Narrow Stairs but they have not fallen nearly as hard as Weezer did after Pinkerton. So that is a check mark on the "pro" side of the Death Cab For Cutie vs. Weezer "pros/cons" list I am considering making one of these days. Their new album Codes and Keys will be out later on... I guess.

TRACK LISTING FOR "NEW MOON" SOUNDTRACK

Here is the track listing for the New Moon soundtrack...I guess.

When I think of a "New Moon" I always think of an ass I have never seen before. Is that what that means? Is this movie going to be ass? I bet it is. Do you remember when Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was getting sued by the Hell's Angles? That was weird.

Apparently Stephen, Stephanie Meyer or whatever the hell her name is wields the power of god. I guess he "hand picked" all this music and then sent Mormon Jesus out to get it for her.

2. Band Of Skulls – Friends
3. Thom Yorke- Hearing Damage
4. Lykke Li – Possibility

7. Muse - I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)

New Death Cab for Cutie "Meet Me On The Equinox"

Jesus Christ what is going on with this Twilight non sense? I have actually seen the first movie and it made me want to do the opposite of living forever. The song is pretty good I guess... for a song written exclusively for a Twilight soundtrack.

Death Cab For Cutie | "Grapevine Fires" (Video)

Damn, this video is a total bummer. You would think that after getting engaged to Zooey Deschanel Ben Gibbard would have a little more spring in his step but homeboy is just as doomy and gloomy as ever. Just a warning, if you're already kind of down you may want to avoid this latest video from Captain Downer and The Bummers.

"Grapevine Fires" appears on the album Narrow Stairs, available now on Atlantic.
