Unknown Mortal Orchestra "Ffunny Ffrends"
I am really liking Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and I am really looking forward to seeing them at the Crescent Ballroom Oct 4th with What Laura Says and St. Ranger (Tix). One of my favorite new bands playing with two of my favorite local bands, that also happen to be two of my favorite bands regardless of geography.
I hope someone gets the guys in Unknown Mortal Orchestra some oranges or at least a bottle of vitamin C because I would be super bummed if they had to cancel because of scurvy. I am joking of course, they just look like they have scurvy, it's probably just a lot of time practicing in that basement & drinking way to much Mt. Dew, which I am pretty sure has vitamin C in it, so they should be fine either way.

Photos: White Denim & St. Ranger @ The Sail Inn

Sorry it took so long to post these. If anybody ever said taking pictures at The Sail Inn was easy, that person is a jerk. Because they are either lying or better than me. And I can't stand either one of those things.
The actual show aside from my selfish and unique lighting problems was pretty gosh darn wonderful. St Ranger is going to be big. I have a feeling about this. White Denim played to the smallish crowd like it was 100,000 people at Shea stadium. They are like machines.

White Denim, St. Ranger & The Embry Record Tonight @ The Sail Inn
Going to be pretty good. Our good friends St. Ranger are playing with White Denim. Not familiar with The Embry Record so let's hope they make a good first impression ;-)

St. Ranger "Ohnowoe"

St. Ranger is one of the brightest bands in town so it warms the cockles of my heart that they sent me over this new song to play for you guys. It definitely shows off all the things I like about them. You know stuff like, the way they play their instruments and the sounds of their voices all together and stuff. Just really good stuff.
Also... can someone let me know if "Ohnowoe" is a real word or just something they made up. Google refuses to tell me.

St. Ranger's New Live EP
Oh, hi, I didn't hear you come in. Welcome back from vacation. I was "snowed in", inside a cabin, a cabin in the forest. It was cold etc...
If I had a label I would definitely sign St. Ranger to my label. It would be a really bad idea for St. Ranger though, because I am really bad at business. They would be better off signing with a fish, or a dead guy, "Fish and a Dead Guy Records" would make a pretty sweet label name though right?
Enough of my ramblings, please check out St. Rangers new EP that they released just a couple of days ago (Listen HERE)It's pretty great if you like things that are pretty great.

Photos: Mimicking Birds, Bears of Manitou & St Ranger @ The Rhythm Room 8/12/2010

What a fantastic show at The Rhythm Room on Thursday. If you missed it you definitely missed out. Portland's Mimicking Birds were amazing. Some people in attendance were a little too chatty for such a mellow band but that's what happens when the bar is 14.2 feet from the stage right?
Bears of Manitou are getting better and better and better every time they play. Just like shining a diamond ;-) I fully expect them to be huge very very soon.
The surprise of the night for me was St Ranger. Don't quote me on this but I heard it was only their second show ever. On one hand I am not surprised because they are so very young but on the other I was amazed because they are so fucking good. It's not often that a band that relies heavily on 2-3-4-5 part harmonies sound good let alone pull it off like seasoned professionals but they did. You can download their first two recorded songs on their Band Camp page HERE. and you should ASAP.
Check out some pictures after the break and even more on our Flickr page HERE
