Albums Of The Year 2011

So these are not really in any order, in fact you could say they were "OUT OF ORDER!" I found myself listening to an album a lot, then not really listening to it again until I DID listen to it again. Here are the ones I listened to the most, and therefore I guess they are the best of the year, I guess. And again, let me stress that in true non committal Electric Mustache fashion, these are presented not in any specific order, and also with videos instead of album art/mp3s, because video are way way easier.

White Denim "Street Joy"

This prom is sooooo much better than my prom. It doesn't even look like these punk ass high school kids even appreciate the fact that White Denim are playing their prom.

Photos: White Denim & St. Ranger @ The Sail Inn

White Denim

Sorry it took so long to post these. If anybody ever said taking pictures at The Sail Inn was easy, that person is a jerk. Because they are either lying or better than me. And I can't stand either one of those things.

The actual show aside from my selfish and unique lighting problems was pretty gosh darn wonderful. St Ranger is going to be big. I have a feeling about this. White Denim played to the smallish crowd like it was 100,000 people at Shea stadium. They are like machines.

New Music Tuesday: White Denim, Battles, What Laura Says

To be honest with you. This list is very very long. Do I have time to listen to every single one of them? No! Did I omit some stuff that I just KNOW is going to suck? YES! Are there other ones in there that suck that I missed? Again YES! Do Battles, White Denim and What Laura Says all have new releases today? Also YES!

White Denim, St. Ranger & The Embry Record Tonight @ The Sail Inn

Going to be pretty good. Our good friends St. Ranger are playing with White Denim. Not familiar with The Embry Record so let's hope they make a good first impression ;-)

White Denim "Drugs"

Happy 4/20 eve from White Denim. Did you know that White Denim at Modified was the first show I ever shot? I was a real piece of crap back then. So please don't look at those pictures... carry on.

White Denim Skip Phoenix For Tucson or How White Denim Ruined My Day

Biscuits and gravy!  The last time White Denim was in town they played a show at Modified Arts that I was super psyched for but ultimately had to miss due to some last minute happenings.  Oh well, life goes on, right?  So the band-who is one of my favorites-releases a new album this year and I sit and wait patiently hoping that the group will swing by Phoenix yet again in support of the new album.  Imagine my surprise and excitement when I see on Stateside Presents Twitter the words "Just Announced: White Denim" and then the disappointment when I see "1/16 @ Club Congress."  The only thing I can compare it to is meeting Natalie Portman for the first time only to have her kick you in the junk instead of make out with you.

This ultimately brings me to a much larger issue: what is up with bands skipping Phoenix for Tucson?

Let me first start off by saying that I am not the type of Phoenician who thinks that Phoenix is superior to Tuscon in every possible way.  If I'm being honest I think Tucson is a very nice city.  But, the facts don't lie; Phoenix is the fifth largest city in the country!  It's filled with people who want to buy tickets to your shows Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, Wilco, White Denim, Santigold.

I'm sure someone will leave a comment saying that sometimes it's out of the artists control.  There wasn't a venue available on such and such date or the drummer has an outstanding warrant in this city.  Whatever the reason is I call bullshit!

Maybe I'm overreacting.  I don't think I am though, and I'm sure there are tons of other Phoenix music lovers who feel the same way on this subject as I do.  Just be warned bands and artists who I like that skip Phoenix for Tucson, you need to fix this shit pronto or you can forget about the Christmas cookies I baked for you.

Video: White Denim - "I Start To Run"

I like the original version of this video better. The song "I Start To Run" comes off White Denim's sophomore album Fits. If you haven't added this one to your collection yet then I suggest you go buy it now. And yes, I mean buy.

PS: Stateside bros, please bring White Denim back to the Valley soon.

New Music Tuesday: Atlas Sound, White Denim,Sufjan & Much More!

Well here we go again with another week of massive amounts of new releases. From Atlas Sound's Logos to a Pixies boxed set that only costs $630 I think you will be able to find something that will sound good in your shitty iPod headphones. Check out the full list after the break.

Video: White Denim - "I Start To Run"

Here is the first single from White Denim's new album Fits. I'm really digging the song "I Start To Run" and the video is pretty entertaining as well. Its got a kind of Mad Max meets Deliverance feel to it set to some kick ass music. For those lucky of you to live in the UK you can pick up White Denim's new album on 6/22 from Fulltime Hobby. For everyone else you can shell out the price of an import or wait until White Denim finds a US record label. Which I still have no idea why this band remains unsigned in the US.

White Denim - "Mirrored and Reverse"(MP3)

Imagine my disappointment when one of my favorite bands, White Denim, roll into town and play at Modified Arts and I can't attend. I was so bummed. Sure, I had an important reason not to be at the show but that didn't help any with my sour mood that night.

Well, at least now I have some good news to help me forget about all of that. Well, sort of. White Denim are set to release their latest album Fits on June 22nd on the UK label Full Time Hobby. That's great news for those in the UK but unfortunately and for reasons I can not comprehend White Denim still does not have a US record label. On the bright side, however, we've got the an mp3 from the album courtesy of NME. Listen to "Mirrored and Reverse" down below.

White Denim and What Laura Says | 3/30/09 Modified Arts

Last night I went to Modified Arts and saw hometown boys What Laura Says and Austin natives White Denim. What Laura Says brought the thunder like they always do and all I can say about White Denim is "warm blanket of sound pain". I have never been to a louder concert in my life, and that includes standing in front of the speakers at Rage Against The Machine. One might even say that it was too loud, not me of course but someone might. If they would not have been so kick ass I would have went outside to listen but as it were I could not unwrap myself from the "pain blanket". Check out some of the pics I managed to get after the break and if you feel so inclined check out a whole bunch more HERE.

White Denim To Play Phoenix!

In my opinion White Denim's debut LP Exposion was the most overlooked album of 2008. Though the album was only released digitally here in the US via Topspin it definetely deserved to be mentioned amongst the top releases of the year. Definetely worth checking out. What better way to check the band out by seeing them live on March 30th at Modified Arts. Tickets are available at Zia Records, Stinkweeds, Hoodlums and online here. For only $8 a ticket you'd be crazy to miss it.
