Video: Erykah Badu - "Gone Baby, Don't Be Long"

A few months ago I was lucky enough to catch Erykah Badu at the Marquee Theater with Janelle Monae opening. It was a great show from both ladies and while both performers put on a fantastic set I am a bit biased to Erykah Badu, since I've been a fan of hers since high school.

Another favorite of mine, Flying Lotus, directed the above video for "Gone Baby, Don't Be Long" which is off New Amerykah Part Two: Return Of The Ankh.

Enjoy!

Tonight In The Valley: Erykah Badu with Janelle Monae | Grupo Fantasma with Bata Ire

Solid choices tonight folks, I am probably just going to stay at home and sleep off my 3am'er last night (editing pictures not anything fun). I would love to go to either of these shows though... but like I said, probably not going to. But I would like to. Just not going to... probably.

Erykah Badu at The Marquee with Big Boi's protegé Janelle Monae, they are both so hot right now, so so hot. Tickets are pricey at $45 but I think totally worth it. Janelle Monae is poised to be HUGE in the next year, $45 is a pretty good price for "I saw her open for Erykah Badu" bragging rights.

Grupo Fantasma and Bata Ire are a hell of a lot cheaper at $15, plus it's a 21+ show at The Rhythm Room so that means you can take your drinks outside... a rare treat not to be missed (note to Rhythm Room, put a fucking patio on the other side of the building please. Even if it's just a door and a temporary barricade or something, those all ages shows are brutal!)

New Music Tuesday: Dum Dum Girls, Black Francis, Felice Brothers, Felix Cartal, Wu Tang (Kinda), Erykah Badu

Pretty solid week in the new release zone. We are starting something new this week... both Mike and I will each recommend a few albums then the whole list will be after the break. Nothing groundbreaking or anything,  but different. Check out the list after the previously mentioned break and let us know if anything else on there is worth a listen/purchase AND also let us know if we left anything off completely... we are only human after all. Well Mike is, I am nearly electronic.

I am going to go ahead and suggest you acquire the Dum Dum Girls I Will Be, Felice Brothers Mix Tape and if you dig some pretty choice electronic music then Felix Cartal's Popular Music is for you and your ears/brain. Nick Cave and the bad Seeds just released a bunch of reissues today so that's good news for you if you like Nick Cave. It's also good news for Nick Cave and it might be good for The Bad Seeds, I am not sure if they are getting a cut of that action or not.

And I (Mike) am going to suggest you pick up the new album from Method Man, Ghostface Killah, and Raekwon entited Wu-Massacre. These guys are probably the best and most successful members of the Wu-Tang Clan and are getting together for an all-star effort. Also, Erykah Badu's new album New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh is out today. I've been a long time fan of Badu and would definitely suggest picking this one up as well. Lastly, for you Pixie fans there is the new album from Black Francis aka Frank Black entitled Nonstoperotik.

mp3: Erykah Badu - "Window Seat"

Eyrkah Badu might not be what most people would think would show up on our blog.  But I'll be honest I love Erykah Badu and I have for a long, long time.  She consistently makes great music and I look forward to each new release of hers.  Speaking of new releases, Erykah Badu will be releasing her latest album New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh March 30th on Universal Motown.  Badu made available via her Twitter a new track from the album called "Window Seat" which features Roots drummer extraordinaire ?uestlove on drums.
