In 500 years when we are old (science, duh), there is a good chance that when we "jack in" to the collective consciousness and look back on this video, we will all collectively agree that it's probably the creepiest video of the week.

A lot has happened since last Tuesday... I won 17 TRILLION dollars in the lottery and I now live on the moon in a space bubble made out of the tears of wood elfs. STRFKR "Julius"

STRFKR are a pretty great band and a bunch of cool guys to boot. I sat near them a couple years ago on the patio of The Rhythm Room while they hung out with cooler people than me. But they sounded really cordial. I also interviewed them via email once, that was pretty funny, you can read that HERE

We just got off this really intense but totally great and certainly productive conf call/staff meeting. It definitely was about all the new albums coming out this week and we definitely listened to all of them and narrowed it down to just the handfull that you can find after the break...

New Music Tuesday: Antony, Belle & Sebastian, Die Antwoord, Sufjan Stevens, Starf**ker, Zola Jesus

Apparently today is the day that kicks off the shitty x-mas album season. And only two weeks into October... PERFECT! It's going to be almost 100 degrees in Phoenix today! The perfect weather to listen to Brian Setzer and the Indigo Girls sing about baby Jesus and chestnuts on open fires! Fortunately (for you) I didn't include any of that crap in this weeks list and even MORE fortunately (for ALL of us) there is a TON of awesome albums coming out today that more than make up for this nonsense. There is so much stuff that I don't even know what half of it is, so please comment below and point out what is good and what sucks. Check out the list after the break and have a happy New Year!

Starfucker is dope, I have reviewed their album, their show at the Rhythm Room, their skills at Scrabble and interviewed them, let me tell you that the viewing of this new video has done NOTHING to make me change my feelings on the subject of their dopeness.

Exclusive Starfucker Interview

It's no lie when people say I have a man crush on Starfucker, so when I had the opportunity to virtually interview them...I did. I asked them a whole gaggle of stupid questions and a couple serious ones and gave them and all of Portland a public service announcement and they responded with the kind of wit only a band called Starfucker could muster. (Electric Mustache) In your new video when you wore dresses did they make you "tuck your junk" for safety reasons?

(Starfucker) Ya, but not for safety reasons, we just like the feel.


(EM) This is more of a warning than a question, but the guitar player in my old band moved to Portland, and he has herpes, so try to avoid him, his name is Joe and you will know him by the trail of sores.

(SF) OK cool. thanks for the heads up, but sadly i think about 75% of Portland has herpes.


(EM) What inspired you to cover "Girls Just Want to Have Fun"? Other than the obvious that is (its an awesome song).

(SF) I(Josh) had it as my ring tone..and ya, just the obvious.


(EM) Are you fortunate enough to not have day jobs when you are not on tour? And if so then congrats but what WOULD you be doing if you HAD to have jobs? And if you DO have day jobs what are they and do they involve food service?

(SF) 2 of us are fortunate to HAVE work when we're not on tour. the other 2 are on food stamps. i think we're close to being able to live on music but not quite there yet. and ya, one serves coffee, one makes websites or something. i used to work with old people as a caregiver but touring all the time doesn't really work with that.


(EM) Who is Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second and is he better or worse than Rawnald Gregory Erickson the First?

(SF) Rawnald Gregory Erickson the Second is one of my favorite people in the world. he has a youtube show. he is someone who i always want to spend more time with. but he is always moving around doing stuff, so time with him is fleeting and magical.

he didn't grow up with his dad and his dad died young-ish so i never met him. but i hear he was as crazy and awesome as the second.


(EM) Please pick one of the following animals that best describes your current thoughts on the economy (please explain answer and SHOW WORK):

(SF) Uh, prob impala- cause the car named after it was so popular to like low-ride and all that. but i mean, the lemur is really cute.


(EM) How long have you know each other?

(SF) Ryan and i have known each other for about 6 years. we used to play in another band(sexton Blake) together. Shawn joined us about a year 1/2 ago. and Keil about 2months ago?


(EM) If you had to pick one candy to take with you to space what would it be?

(SF) Does mango count? natures candy?


(EM) Do you guys collaborate on song writing duties?

(SF) Not in the recording and original songwriting process, but in arranging the live show, yes.


(EM) Any special plans for when your album comes out?

(SF) Well we're touring till may, then we might be touring again for may and June then...sleep? record more? we also might go to Europe in Sept I hope!

Starfucker "Jupiter" a Review in 3 Parts

I fucking love Starfucker! I am not gonna lie, up until I saw them live last month at The Rhythm Room I hadn't even heard of them, but they blew me away then and when I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of Jupiter it's been on steady repeat ever since.

I don't want to go off on a bunch of hyperbole and stupid metaphors but I will give you a list of things that Jupiter will be awesome to listen to whilst doing:

1) Having sex
2) Driving
3) Driving and having sex
4) Farming
5) Woodworking
6) Push-up contests
7) Rollerskating
8) Firing someone
9) Painting a tribute mural of Tupac and Biggie under a freeway underpass

Now here is a list of things where it would not be very appropriate:

1) Skeet shooting
2) Waxing your surfboard
3) ...um that's it, those are the only two things I can think of and honestly you really could wax your surfboard to it if you wanted, but seriously DON'T listen to anything while you skeet shoot, that's just dangerous man.

Any band that can pull of "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" with such panache and moxie is group of fellows that I just have to get behind. I highly suggest you do the same.

In closing if you are the type of person that likes to dance or likes to listen to music that was made for people that like to dance and have a good time by dancing and having fun you will be doing yourself a disservice by not purchasing Jupiter when it comes out on May 5th. I rest my case.
