Video: Arctic Monkeys - "Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair"

To clarify, I'm posting this video not because I like it, but rather because I pretty much hate it. I'll be honest here folks, I really wish the Arctic Monkeys would've just called it quits after their second album, Favourite Worst Nightmare. Why? Because everything since then has been crap. And, in all honesty, Favourite Worst Nightmare wasn't all that great. It had a few good songs and in comparison to the Monkey's last two records it's pretty good but that's really not saying much.

How does a band go from being so good on their first album to being so bad? When they started out with Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not they were a kind of fun, British version of the Strokes but have slowly morphed into this hard rock band that just isn't that much fun to listen to. And I hate to be that fan who doesn't want the band to grow and try new things, but whatever it is they are trying to do just isn't working.

Not only that, but they use to be such a good video band, also. They use to have some really great videos and even that has gone to shit.

Oh well, maybe Alex Turner will go solo soon. He put out a nice collection of songs recently for the film Submarine which is much better than anything the Arctic Monkey's have done recently.

I love festival season.

It seems like no other time during the year do we get as many quality shows here in The Valley then we do just before SXSW starts and shortly after Coachella ends.  While it felt like there was nothing going on this week, next week is packed with huge shows from bands making their way to Indio, CA.  Vampire Weekend, The Big Pink, A Place To Bury Strangers, Arctic Monkeys, Yeasayer, The Temper Trap, are just some of the bands you can look forward to next week.  Honestly, it feels like there are too many shows to choose from.

One show that I'm particularly excited for (but won't be able to attend, unfortunately) is the Deer Tick show at Trunk Space on the 14th.  I'm always partial to see Deer Tick but the addition of locals Jacob Smigel, Andrew Jackson Jihad and Matthew Reveles to the bill make this show look pretty damn good on paper. 

Fans of Deer Tick will be happy to know that the band has a new album on the way entitled The Black Dirt Sessions which will be out June 8th on Partisan.  You can download the first single from the new album, "20 Miles," down below.

Video: Arctic Monkeys "My Propeller"

I really, really liked the first two albums from Arctic Monkeys, but the bands last album Humbug just didn't grab me at all. The song "Cornerstone" was a decent enough track but the rest of the album, including this song "My Propeller", were just disappointing.

Not only are the songs disappointing but all of the videos for the songs have been really boring. Which is really too bad because I have always considered the Arctic Monkeys to be a really good video band. Some of my favorite music videos like "Fluorescent Adolescent", "Leave Before The Lights Come On" and "When The Sun Goes Down" all come from the Arctic Monkeys. It's a real bummer. Personally, though probably incorrectly, I'm pointing the finger at Josh Homme who produced the record.

Humbug is out now on Domino. You can catch the Arctic Monkeys in Tempe when they play Marquee Theater on April 15th.

Arctic Monkeys Playing Marquee Theatre This April

Good news for fans of those lovable Brits the Arctic Monkeys as the group will be touring the States this April.  The Arctic Monkeys will be making a stop at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe on April 15th.  Tickets for the all ages show will be $24 but no date yet has been announced when tickets will go sale. 

I was lucky enough to catch the Arctic Monkeys at the Marquee back in 2006 when they were touring in support of their sophomore album Favourite Worst Nightmare and they put on a good, albeit short show.  I've been a long time fan of the group but I have to admit that the bands latest album Humbug didn't really grab me like their previous efforts.  Still, should be a good show.

This video makes me think that if I had a good band and some AV gear from the 70's I would be able to make a sweet music video. The only problem I can foresee is finding such a shitty sweater, those other things should be easy.

Arctic Monkeys To Relase New Album In August

Good news today from the UK as it was just announced that the Arctic Monkeys will release their third album on August 24th of this year. Since the 24th falls on a Monday this year, we're assuming that is the UK release date with the album available the following day here in the states.

The album is untitled at the moment but will feature ten brand new tracks produced by Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age/Eagles of Death Metal. See the track listing below:

Arctic Monkeys: Crying Lightning(Video)

The Arctic Monkeys' debuted several new songs recently at this years Big Day Out festival in New Zealand. Luckily for us one of those songs made it on to the YouTube. The Monkeys are reportedly two thirds completed on their next album but to date no title or release date has been set.
