Flying Blanket Party @ Martini Ranch 3/5/2010

Dear and the Headlights @ Flying Blanket Martini Ranch 3-5-2010-5

If and when they make a movie called "The Worst" it HAS to star the spray on tan assholes that stood in everybody's way taking pictures of themselves looking like (and being) douchebags and whores rather than watching the show going on right in front of their faces... at my favorite Scottsdale AZ nightspot Martini Ranch this past Friday for the Flying Blanket Recording compilation CD release party. It has been a REALLY long time since I have been back to Martini Ranch and they have made a lot of changes, mostly to the stage and lighting. I am not gonna lie it's pretty fucking awesome, considering it used to just be a little triangle in the corner with some shitty French doors leading out to the patio area. But enough Martini Ranch talk... the show itself was pretty great. Any time you get MOST (Why no What Laura Says?) of the best bands in Phoenix together no matter where it's at you are pretty much guaranteed to a great night. That being said I won't bore you with a long ass review because if you even give a shit you were probably there and just want to see some pictures... so ughh here you go then, check them out after the break and a few more on our Flickr page HERE. Oh and all photos are courtesy of ElectricShots.com (That's me Shawn Anderson if you want to hire my ass or buy some pictures ;-)

Tonight In Scottsdale: Dear And The Headlights/Kinch/Black Carl/ The Love Me Nots/Gospel Claws

There is such a large/robust/intimidating amount of things going on tonight in The Valley it's really blowing my mind open like jar of Ragu on spaghetti night at the homeless shelter. So much do I might just have to stay at home and cry. We can go to the Flying Blanket Recording show at Martini Ranch featuring Kinch, Dear & the Headlights, The Love Me Nots, Black Carl, Gospel Claws and Sister Cities. Or we could go to the Compound Grill for some Dry River Yacht Club. ORRRR head downtown to Holgas to see Dearspeak with Fatigo and Thankful Birds for a free show that's part of First Friday. Oh shit it’s First Friday ANOTHER thing to add to the list that could take up your whole night all by itself!

What I am I going to do you ask, so you can avoid me probably. Well I am going to break my vow of never going to Marini Ranch ever again because it's going to be worth it. The last time I went there I saw a dude throw a bick through the back window of a Cadillac for taking up two spaces. Fingers crossed tonight it will be even MORE exciting!

As a side note we have a new commenting system that is pretty cool. You can reply to other peoples comments, up OR down vote, have avatars etc... We hope it will inspire some more "ElectricMustache Community Spirit" if you know what I mean.  I am also going to mention it in every post till people start leaving comments telling me to stop mentioning that people should leave comments.

Photos: Kinch Xmas Party @ The Rhythm Room 12/22/09

Kinch @ The Rhythm Room 12-22-09 (17 of 21)

Sorry about the whole one day delay in posting these pictures from the “Kinchmas Party” Tuesday night but time is a commodity hard to come by right before our national day of giving each other useless crap and/or gift cards to buy our own useless crap. But I set aside some "me" time and powered these out. Mike did a nice write up of the whole shebang for the New Times blog that you can read HERE... and you can visually inspect the several more pictures of the festive event on our Flickr page HERE as well as a sampling after the break.

Tonigh in Phoenx: Kinch, Dear and the Headlights, What Laura Says & Black Carl @ The Rhythm Room

If you are smart, and I know that you are, then excitement is growing in the pants of your loins for this show tonight. What could be better then 5 of the best Phoenix has to offer all together for our pleasure? A shit ton of money maybe but other than that I can't think of anything. I am interested to see how this whole "xmas songs n' carols" thing goes because as a general rule I fucking hate xmas music. In fact the only thing I really like about xmas is the huge lines of mouth breathers at Wal-Mart when I just want to buy Cottenelle adult wipes.

Kia Soul: event with Miniature Tigers, Dear and the Headlights and The Secret Machines

So Kia...the maker of fine Korean cars with 10 year warranties (that you will need since they are worth $5 as soon as you drive them off the lot ;-...just kidding Kia's are awesome) have put together a promotional tour called The Soul Collective that is hitting some of the major cities across the US, with each city getting 4 days of Kia Soul test drives and 4 days of free concerts. Each stop has a whole new group of bands so its really only the cars that are going on tour and not the bands. The Phoenix stop has two hometown favorites on Saturday (Miniature Tigers and Dear and the Headlights) and surprisingly good Against Me! on Sunday with the Secret Machines starting things of Thursday with an invite only special even that you can RSVP for by clicking HERE So get to registering and we will see you these...My driving skills are pretty awesome so when you the bearded fat guy doing burn outs in the parking lots it's probably going to be me.

Dear and the Headlights Playing '09 Vans Warped Tour

Local indie darlings Dear and the Headlights are set to play this years Vans Warped Tour. After playing a successful SXSW this year Phoenix New Times writer Martin Cizmar wondered if they weren't Phoenix's great hope. No pressure there, Martin. In truth, Dear and the Headlights are in my top 5 favorite local bands and hopefully the exposure the get from the Vans Warped Tour will hope them break out nationally.

Also, on this years Vans Warped Tour are other local favorites Scary Kids Scaring Kids. You can see both Dear and the Headlights and Scary Kids Scaring Kids when the Vans Warped Tour hits Phoenix on June 30th. For a full list of bands and tour dates check out the Warped website.

Even though Electric Mustache will not be at this years SXSW festival in Austin (again) the state of Arizona will be strongly represented. If you are going to be in the Austin, TX area on March 19th you can check out I Heart AZ "the official unofficial Arizona SXSW party" being presented by Max3 and Phoenix New Times.

Check out the full and official schedule here for a list of all the bands, local and otherwise, playing SXSW. The SXSW website was also nice enough to put up some mp3s for you to download.

Here is just a sample of some of the awesome AZ bands that will be there:

mp3:
Miniature Tigers - "Cannibal Queen"
The Silos - "Behind Me Now"
What Laura Says - "July 23"
Dear and the Headlights - "I'm Not Crying. You're Not Crying, are you?"
