Sharon Van Etten on Daytrotter

Sharon Van Etten is one of my favorite up and coming musicians.  The Brooklyn singer-songwriter is currently in Austin for SXSW but managed to record a session for Daytrotter.  With all of the music world in Austin right now I'd say it's a pretty safe bet you can expect a lot of really good Daytrotter session in the next few days.  You can head on over to the Daytrotter site, where you can listen to (the download option doesn't seem to be available for this session at the time of me writing this) four songs from Van Etten.

Megafaun Does Daytrotter

We were won over big time when we saw Megafaun open up for Bon Iver at the Mesa Arts Center last year.  The North Carolina trio will be playing a couple of gigs in Arizona this April with a show in Tucson at Club Congress on 04/22 and then follow that up with a show the following day at Sail Inn.  Can't wait.

If you haven't checked out the bands 2009 album Gather, Form And Fly we highly recommend you do so. It was one of my favorites of last year.

If you need a little bit more than just my personal recommendation then you can check out the bands Daytrotter session where they play a couple of tracks from the album as well as some tracks from their album Bury the Square.

Pearly Gate Music Did Daytrotter

If you were one of the lucky/smart people to go to the J. Tillman show at Modified Arts last year and you go there early enough your ears would have been treated to J. Tillman's younger brother aka Pearly Gate Music. If you were NOT one of those fortunate people you HAVE to check him out and what better way than a nice Daytrotter Session. Listen to "Daddy Wrote You Letters" below and head on over to Daytrotter to read the article and another track. But also check out Pearly Gate Music's mySpace page for even more songs... you are going to love it, or not I guess, you might hate it or maybe just be indifferent. But if you don't love it I am taking you off of my "sex dreams list" for at least a week.

A.A. Bondy Did Daytrotter

As you may or may not know, we have been pretty big fans of A.A. Bondy for a long time (internet time of course) We have covered a couple shows, make some videos etc... And we are really happy he is getting the attention he deserves. He recently did a Daytrotter Session that you can check out HERE. I have been kind enough to post "I Can See The Pines Are Dancing" below for you lazy people, but you should definetly read the article and listen to the other three track on Daytrotter.

Beach House Do Daytrotter

I know that last week I said that Surfer Blood's Astro Coast was the best album of January... but I think I have changed my mind. I am pretty sure it's Teen Dream, I guess that is why people wait till the end of the year to make lists... I guess. So for the last 5-6 days I have listened to Teen Dream about a million times so a nice Daytrotter session is right up my alley right now. Not literally because that would be gross.  Listen to Zebra below and the rest of the session on Daytrotter proper HERE

Tiny Vipers Do Daytrotter

Daytrotter to me symbolizes what is awesome about the internet. They are like a really cool older brother that is always banging hot chicks. Except instead of hot chick (sometimes they ARE hot chicks) awesome bands and instead of banging (they might be also banging) they are recording intimate live sessions. So here is another Daytrotter sessions from Tiny Vipers who is beloved by music critics all over the world and will probably be super alt famous one day. I posted ALL the songs from the sessions because you know that stealing from your older brother is just what little bastards like us do. But you should really check out the source for a great article HERE.

The Antlers Do Daytrotter

It may not be a secret that I am in love with The Antlers Hospice but what I have learned over the last few weeks is kinda disturbing me. Lot's of people also like Hospice so many in fact that it was already names album of the year (so far) by NPR. That is NOT the disturbing part though...wait for it...some people DON'T like The Antlers because they "Don't get it" or "It's weird" or "They sound weird" or "This shit is depressing me" (that one I get though). I don't know if the songs they just recorded for Daytrotter are going to do any "mind changing" but I love them even more now. Listen to my favorite song on Hospice "The Kettering" below. Click HERE for the other three songs and a nice little article.

Woods on Daytrotter

I like Woods. After seeing them at The Rhythm Room earlier this year I REALLY liked them. So when I checked my feed reader today and saw that they did a Daytrotter session I was pretty excited. When I saw that they did three previously unreleased songs I got REALLY REALLY excited.

Daytrotter has consistently done the best job of getting excellent bands into their recording lair for sessions. Not to take anything away from the likes of Black Cab Sessions, La Blogotheque and LaundroMatinee or anything because they are also fucking great. But Daytrotter is ahead by a slight margin even without video.

The Mumlers on Daytrotter

The Mumlers are one of my favorite new bands, I would say favorite NEW bands because I just heard about them about a month ago. But they have been around a few years so I would imagine people might take umbrage to me calling them "new" but they are "new to me" so fuck it.

We had the exclusive premier on their video for Coffin Factory back in August and it has received an absurd amount of well deserved love in the comments section on youtube.

They dropped by Daytrotter to lay down some acoustic tracks, a couple from their new album Don't Throw Me Away and their last album Thickets & Stitches Check them out below yo.

Videos: Miniature Tigers at The Ice House

Miniature Tigers at The Ice House 8/29/2009

I totally forgot that I took some videos at the Mini Tigers show last Saturday at The Ice House. I have also decided that the Flip camera I have takes piss poor audio recordings now...I think I might have blown the mic at the Dan Deacon show or something. But check out the super lively crowd and shitty audio...if you dare.

If you want to hear some way better audio of Mini T's check out their Daytrotter session from earlier this year HERE

Starlight Mints Daytrotter Session

Not sure how I missed this but I did and I am sorry will you ever forgive me? I wouldn't if I were you. But the Starlight Mints were on Daytrotter last week. They did three songs including two unreleased "Your Love Isn't Real" and "Hold that Tiger" and "Zillion Eyes" from Built for Squares. Do you think bands are actively trying to get on Daytrotter or do you think Daytrotter is constantly trying to get bands to come and record a session? Either way I wonder what kinds of things they offer each other? I hope it involves gallons of vodka and several pounds of flour.

Miniature Tigers Visit Daytrotter

Local favorites Miniature Tigers stopped by Daytrotter to play some songs from their album Tell It To The Volcano as well as two unreleased songs "Egyptian Robe" and "Dark Tower". All of the songs sound fantastic and can be downloaded free and legal at the Daytrotter site. Below you can hear Miniature Tigers' song "Dino Damage".
