mp3: Raekwon with Ghostface, Inspectah Deck, Method Man, “Flying Daggers”

The love for the Wu is pure and undying at this internet blog, so any new material out from any of the Clan is good news for us.

Video: Little Boots "Remedy"

This Little Boots song is a little more poppy than her last one "New in Town" but it's Friday and I am tired so I think we should all meet somewhere and do some Jager Bombs and dance OK? See you at the club bros!

DD/MM/YYYY Signs to Impose Records

DD/MM/YYYY Canada's favorite no named band has signed to Brooklyn's Impose Records, since it's going to be winter soon and all of Canada's record label resources are put into ice road trucking. They are also arranging a US tour that will come nowhere NEAR Phoenix so that is pretty disappointing for me personally but for all y'all other folks that have the sense to not live here I am sure there will be something close to you.

New EP From Kinch Out In September

One of our favorite local bands, Kinch, just announced on their Myspace page that they'll have a new EP out this September. The EP, entitled Collars and Sleeves, will be given away for free on the bands website and you can go there now and sign up to receive your copy via e-mail.

Video: RENMINBI "Set Up"

RENMINBI made a video. RENMINBI emailed me the video. RENMINBI is featured throughout the video. RENMINBI recorded the song they are playing IN the video. I hope you picking up what I am putting down hear people...RENMINBI are a talented bunch of folks from NYC that I have already advised you to check out HERE so if you were to lazy then, perhaps after watching the above musical video will entice you to seek further listening enjoyment via their freely available EP entitled Surface that is for free, and really good. If you live in the East Coast area of American States it would be in your best interest to search out a live performance. It will be similar to the video but you will be able meet them probably...if you ask nice.

mp3: The Mountain Goats - "Genesis 3:23"

The Mountain Goats will be releasing a new album this October. Here is what the record label has to say about the new record:

"4AD is excited to release the new album by THE MOUNTAIN GOATS, which is John Darnielle, Peter Hughes and Jon Wurster. The Life Of The World To Come was recorded this spring and features string arrangements by Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy). it will be released on October 6th. Less a profession of religious faith than an immersion in Biblical poetry and imagery, the songs on The Life of the World to Come take their names from verses that informed or inspired them, or which, sometimes, came up against them at right angles.

John Darnielle is one of the most imaginative lyricists of his generation. Since he sat down cross-legged with an acoustic guitar in front of a boom box and pressed record for the first time - more than a decade ago - skewed characters, vibrant images and perfectly-framed narratives have flowed in the hundreds. The Life Of The World To Come is the band's sixth album for 4AD."

You can take a listen to the first single from the new album, "Genesis 3:23" below.

Video: Yo La Tengo - "Here To Fall"

Do you like air shows? Well then, cousin, do I have the perfect video for you. "Here To Fall" is the first of five videos to come from Yo La Tengo's forthcoming album Popular Songs. I really enjoy the song but have to admit that I'm not particularly crazy about the video. Judge for yourself and let us know what you think.

Popular Songs is available September 8th from Matador.

mp3: Crystal Antlers "Tentacles"

My extreme fondness of the Crystal Antlers runs very deep, and the trench of love only got deeper when I saw them at The Rhythm Room a couple months ago. It was probably the best show I have seen all year, and I have seen a lot of shows so you can believe me...seriously you can. Even though I have listened to their latest album a shit ton anytime a single is released it gives a new sense of vigor and vitality to stuff that has been out awhile. So check out the title track to Tentacles and pick up the album if you haven't already.

Sonic Youth Playing Marquee Theatre Oct. 1st

Sonic Youth just announced some additional dates to their North American tour. Those dates will luckily include two shows in Arizona this October. One will be October 1st at Marquee Theatre and the second will be October 2nd at Rialto Theatre in Tucson. Tickets for the show go on sale August 1st at 10 am.

Tonight In Phoenix: Kid Cudi & Asher Roth @ Marquee Theatre, Castanets @ Modified Arts

A couple of good musical options to choose from tonight in Phoenix.

One of my favorite new rappers, Kid Cudi, performs tonight at Marquee Theatre in Tempe. Kid Cudi is responsible for some of my favorite songs of the year so far and I'm very much looking forward to his debut LP Man on the Moon. Playing along with Kid Cudi tonight is Asher Roth.

You can also catch Castanets with Warmer Milk at Modified Arts. Local favorites Stephen Steinbrink and Courtney Marie Andrews are also on the bill.

Rock legends Aerosmith and ZZ Top play at Cricket Pavillion.

Video: Wild Beasts "Hooting & Howling"

When you are a blogger you sometimes run the risk of not being on the cutting edge of something then blogging about stuff that is new to you but everybody already heard about from their grandma 2 years ago...I hope this is not one of those times...I just heard about Wild Beasts today and so far I really like them and that's that. They have a new album coming out 8/3/09 in the UK (9/8/09 US) called Two Dancers I expect it to be making some waves on the internets soon.

Video: Friendly Fires "Kiss Of Life"

I don't have anything funny to say about this video...I will let Ed Macfarlane's dancing say it for me!!! IN YOUR FACE ED!

Friendly Fires are British and they are up for Mercury Prize and that is a very large deal for British bands.

Video: Octopus Project "Wet Gold"

I have decided that most everything in this world would be better with "wet" in front of it. Gold is pretty good but Wet Gold is better. I can think of a couple other words just off the top of my mind that would benefit from being wet ;-)

mp3: Jemina Pearl feat. Iggy Pop - "I Hate People"

I was extremely disappointed to learn that Nashville garage rock group Be Your Own Pet broke up back in 2008 after only two albums. Fortunately, former BYOP lead singer Jemina Pearl didn't let the break up keep her from being busy. Pearl is releasing her debut solo album, Break It Up, on 10/6 on Universal/Ecstatic Peace. The albums first single, "I Hate People", is a great song and features one of my personal favorite musicians Iggy Pop. Take a listen:

You can also catch Jemina Pearl this fall when she heads out on tour with Islands. Both acts will play a show at The Rhythm Room on 10/25.

Video: Motel Motel "Coffee"

It's a video with an almost naked man with a beard in the woods covered in dirt and animal shit. I SWEAR TO GOD I never saw a camera ANYWHERE the whole time I was out there, and that whole part with the chick at the end is all special effects...never happened. The only correlation to coffee I can come up with is that he may be growing it, but I don't think that is right either.

Video: Lissy Trullie "Ready for the Floor" (Hot Chip Cover)

It's Friday and on Friday's I like to post videos of Hot Chip covers. I KNOW that I have never posted any videos of Hot Chip covers before and it's probably going to be a long time before I post another one but that doesn't change what I like!!! OK? Check out Lissy's myspace page for some more tracks that are not Hot Chip covers HERE

I haven't listened to it yet so let's all do it at the same time...listen to the song sicko freak, get your minds out the gutta!

I cruised on down to yea olde Rhythm Room last night for a few hours of hot baked music, so hot that people were going outside to cool off and outside was 102 F.......ucking Degrees! But it was all worth it because the $1.50 PBRs were flowing like wine and Starlight Mints put on a great show. Local boys Source Victoria but also put on an excellent performance as did my new favorite freak of a singer JP INC. He cant sing for shit but he is funny as hell and I think I may have peed my pants a little. Took a bunch of pics for your pleasure so please enjoy them outside so you can get the full effect.

The Mars Volta Coming to Phoenix

The Mars Volta are coming back to Phoenix to finish their set from last year ;-) in supports of their new album Octahedron. The show is scheduled for Sep 5th at the Dodge Theater and tickets are a reasonable $40 (not reasonable) via Live Nation

mp3: Yo La Tengo - "Here To Fall"

WHY? playing Modified Arts

The fall concert schedule is really starting to fill up. Another addition just announced today is from indie hip-hop trio WHY? The group will play two Arizona shows this October starting with a performance at Modified Arts on 10/23 and then making a stop the following night at Club Congress in Tucson. The band will playing some new tracks from their forthcoming album Eskimo Snow. Should be a great show. Au and Serengeti and Polyphonic open the show. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online here.

Deer Tick do the Laundromatinee

Deer Tick stopped by My Old Kentucky's Laundromatinee to record a few songs in glorious black and white. I was pretty bummed when I had to miss their show here in Phoenix so this almost makes it better...almost. What's that? Why did I miss the show you ask... I had rabbies OK, are you happy now? I was almost over that and you HAD to drag it out of my mental garbage can didn't you?

Beastie Boys feat. Nas - "Too Many Rappers"

We're still pretty bummed by the news of Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys having cancer. Obviously, his condition is forcing the group to cancel some shows and push back the release of their forthcoming album. We are glad to hear that cancer is treatable and wish Yauch a speedy recovery.

Earlier today Stereogum posted a stream of "Too Many Rappers", a new Beastie Boys song featuring Nas. Take a listen below to the new track.

mp3: Rain Machine - "Give Blood"

Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio has a very respectable beard. He also has a solo album that he is releasing under the name Rain Machine. The self titled album will be released 9/22 on Anti-.

Here is the description of the album from the record label:
"Rain Machine features ten unflinchingly original and emotional songs mixing elements of modern jazz, blue-grass and blistering guitar driven rock into a refreshing new sound. As singer and guitarist for celebrated band TV on the Radio, Malone proved himself both a captivating and delightfully unpredictable musical force. On Rain Machine, he shows himself a singer and a lyricist of startling talents. Malone recently described Rain Machine as “a nearly full spectrum of frequencies audible to the human ear, a reflection of a variety of emotions and situations real and imagined - some rhythm some rhyme.” In most instances such a statement could be dismissed as nothing more than playful hyperbole. This is not one of those times. Rain Machine is the sound of an extraordinary artist emerging into his own."
You can listen to the first mp3 off of the new album, "Give Blood", down below.

mp3: The Gossip "Heavy Cross"

This song is just sooo damn good it's "Louder Than Your FACE!" I have been listening to this song on some heavy rotation via Sirius XMU and now that iTunes is giving it away for free for a week I am sure I will listen to it enough to be sick of it soon enough. Their new album is our NOW digitally on iTunes and Amazon but I heard somewhere that the U.S. CD release is immanent.

Other albums worth checking out include Wye Oak's The Knot, and two self titled albums from Blue Roses and Bad Veins.

Here is a full list of recommended albums this week. As always be sure to support you local record store.

Old Canes Sign to Saddle Creek Announce New Album

When I think of Saddle Creek Records I think of beards so the Old Canes should fit right in. It's also nice to have a whole completed album when you sign to a new record label that way you can take it easy for a few month and get to know each other. Maybe have a couple of beers whilst bowling. Just a suggestion...jeez. Oh yea, they do really have a new album out on Oct 20th called Feral Harmonic so it's good that is comes out right before Halloween because that title is kinda creeping me out.

Another great concert announcement just came our way via Stateside Presents. Wisconsin's own Bon Iver will be playing to gigs in Arizona this September starting with a show at Rialto Theatre in Tucson on September 28th followed by a show at Mesa Arts Center on the 29th. Adam Yauch Has Cancer!!! Beastie Boys Tour and Album Postponed

Holy shit this is crappy news coming out of the Beastie Boys camp! Adam Yauch just released this video announcing he has a form of cancer on his neck. The good news is it's ONLY in that one spot and they will be able to remove it and it won't affect his voice. The treatment is going to cause a delay in their tour dates and cause them to push back the date of their upcoming album Hot Sauce Committee, not dates or times have been announced yet but check back for details...Send out your Power Dream to Adam!

Video: Kid Cudi feat. Kanye West & Common - "Make Her Say"

This songs been on repeat for me for a while now and I'm glad to see it's finally got a video. The song "Make Her Say" comes off of Kid Cudi's debut album Man On The Moon which is due out this fall.

You can catch Kid Cudi next Monday(7/27) at Marquee Theatre in Tempe with Asher Roth.

Micachu & The Shapes To Play The Rhythm Room

Oh, happy day! Stateside Presents has once again made me a happy man as they just announced that UK indie-punk rockers Micachu & The Shapes will be playing The Rhythm Room this September 14th. I absolutely love the debut album from Micachu & The Shapes entitled Jewelery and can't wait to see it performed live. I'm totally psyched. Tickets for the show are $14 and can be purchased at Zia Records, Stinkweeds, Hoodlums and online here. Brooklyn based band Chairlift also performs.

Weekend Concert Calendar: No Age, Jessica Lea Mayfield and More!

no age

It's a pretty busy weekend for concerts this weekend.

The weekend kicks off tonight(7/17) with a free show featuring two of our favorite locals Gospel Claws and Dry River Yacht Club at Civic Space Park downtown.

Saturday you can catch a free in store performance from L.A. art punk duo No Age as they perform at Stinkweeds. If you miss that performance don't worry because they'll be playing again later that night at The Library on Mill avenue in Tempe. Also performing will be Gospel Claws, Dry River Yacht Club, Michelle Blades, and Miles to Nowhere. Should be a fantastic show.

No Age -
"Teen Creeps"

This Sunday you can catch Jessica Lea Mayfield performing at The Rhythm Room in Phoenix. What Laura Says and Farewell Review open the show.

For any classic rock enthusiasts Moody Blues play at Dodge Theatre on Sunday.

mp3: Atlas Sound ft. Panda Bear - "Walkabout"

All the hipster music websites I like to read have been a buzz about this latest mp3 from Atlas Sound. The song "Walkabout" is from Atlas Sound's forthcoming album Logos, due out on 10/20 from Kranky. The track features guest vocals from Noah Lennox aka Panda Bear of Animal Collective.

I admit it's a pretty solid track but sounds I don't know if I'd go as far as "song of the year," but that's just me. What do you guys think?

mp3: Monsters of Folk "Say Please"

If I had to pick some dudes to be the Traveling Wilburys of our generation I can't think of a better group. I take that back, they should get an Elliot Smith robot or something to join then on the encores. But if you would like to hear a track off Monsters of Folk's upcoming album Monsters of Folk (out Sep 22nd) then I have just the thing for you and yours. Che Check it out below.

Monsters of Folk -
"Say Please"

Video: Passion Pit - "To Kingdom Come"

Check out the video for "To Kingdom Come", the second video from Passion Pit's debut album Manners.

Video: Grizzly Bear - "Ready, Able" (Live on David Letterman)

I was more than a little bummed that I had to miss Wilco and Grizzly Bear last month in Tucson. Sure, I missed the show because I was having a new baby, but still!

Normally, I'd say something like 'well, at least this video of Grizzly Bear performing on David Letterman to hold me over,' but f-that. I want a time machine so I can go back and go that show in Tucson. That probably wouldn't be the smartest use of a time machine, I know, but I'm a simple man with simple needs.

Grizzly Bear just announced a brand new tour and we've still got no Phoenix dates scheduled. I have tweeted Ed Droste to see if he can squeeze in a Phoenix date but as of yet I haven't got back. I'm sure he's working on it though.

mp3: Girls - "Hellhole Ratrace"

The mp3 from "Hellhole Ratrace" from the band Girls has been circulating around the interwebs for a few weeks now but I'm just now getting around to posting it. The song comes off of Girls debut LP Album, which will be released on 9/22 from Matador/True Panther.

Video: Japandroids "I Quit Girls" live on The Tripwire

Not only do Japandroids have one of my favorite "Japan" starting names (sorry Japanther) their album Post-nothing is one of my favorites so far this very year we are living in. Apparently "I Quit Girls" is a little to "laid back" to perform live but they made an exception for The Tripwire and Brian King played it in some bad ass J-Shorts.

Tonight In Phoenix: Andrew Jackson Jihad @ The Trunk Space, Boys and Frogs @ The Phix

andrew jackson jihad

An awesome night tonight for fans of local music.

Local favorites Andrew Jackson Jihad kick off their Summer of Pain '09 tour tonight in at The Trunk Space in Phoenix. For those of you attending the show you can pick up a copy of the bands new album Can't Maintain. Also on the bill tonight are Bomb the Music Industry, Laura Stevenson and the Cans, Partners in 818 and Shortstack Lightning.

Also playing tonight at The Phix are Boys and Frogs along with Saddles, Henry Bayless and The Chase! Should be a great show.

mp3: Kurt Vile - "Overnite Religion"

Philadelphia singer-songwriter Kurt Vile's second album, Childish Prodigy, is set to be released this October from Matador. The first mp3 from the new album is "Overnite Religion" which I am finding to be quite awesome.

mp3: Bird Names “Taxicabs and Bicycles”

This is kinda a two part post, the first part is about Bird Names new album coming out next week called Sings the Browns, I listened to it a bunch of times on a 3,000 mile road trip over the last week or so and over all it's a fantastic album but there are parts of it that sort of hypnotize you a little so I would recommend NOT listening to it all the way through whilst driving next to the Grand Canyon at 3am...other than that please DO listen to it several times because it does take a few listens to get what is going on. It's a pretty wild and crazy album that definitely rewards repeat listens via a nice set of headphones.

The second part of this post is “Taxicabs and Bicycles” the first single off of Sings the Browns and I am posting right down there below what I am typing now. Please have listen and try not to crash!!!

"Taxicabs and Bicycles"

Video: Foreign Born "Winter Games"

I have a sneaking suspicion that if they changed to real Olympic Winter Games to people dancing like in Foreign Born's new video "Winter Games" off their new album Person to Person I would be way more inclined to watch, well aside from bobsledding...which is awesome I find winter sports to be pretty mundane and could really use some disco dancing if you ask me and my alligator boots.

Video: One for the Team "Ha Ha"

This video is THE BALLS...get it? I have a love/hate relationship with bowling, I used to love it, then I REALLY hated it, mostly because you can't smoke in bowling alley's anymore, now I am pretty impartial. But I think a trip to the lanes with One for the Team might get me a little more excited for it. I think there would be an overload of "fat guys with beards" though, especially if Mike went too.

Video: Wilco and Feist - "You and I" on Letterman

Since we are really just a Wilco blog that posts some stuff about other bands sometimes I would be remiss if I didn't share this surprisingly very high quality video from last night's David Letterman television program featuring the rock band Wilco performing "You and I" complete with Feist. I wonder if when they recorded this song she knew that she would end up being the 7th member of Wilco?

The Mars Volta Octahedron Review 7.8 Beards

I didn't copy get my copy of Octahedron till I got back from a 2 week vacation yesterday so please excuse the "lateness" of this review. If you don't already have your copy then you probably are not a big fan of The Mars Volta so I guess this review is for you...and your dad (your mom LOVES them, trust me) I think the best way to approach this whole thing is with a list of reasons why you should get it, the internet loves lists for a reason OK!

1) You can play it in your car really loud at night and maybe a little high and wherever you are going when you get there you will end up staying in the parking lot till the end of the album.

2) The names of the songs are just bad ass! "Copernicus", "Cotopaxi" and "Luciforms" what the hell does any of that even mean?

3) Haircuts

4) Thomas Pridgen, the newish drummer is retarded good! He won the National Guitar Center "Drum Off" when he was 9 years old. (check out this vid) Even though he doesn't get as much time to shine as he did in their last album (his first with the band) you get a pretty good taste in "Cotopaxi".

5) It will give you the ability to shoot lasers our of your knees...I swear!

6) Not going to get much better album covers this side of the 70's right?

7) They made this awesome video for you:

mp3: Vivian Girls "When I'm Gone"

In my personal life I have been kinda "anti" Vivian Girls but I am growing to like them I must admit. It's not they are changing or anything it's that I am changing, like a when a man changes into a bear or a dog into a pony, the exact same thing. Even though all of their songs sound pretty much the same (sorry Vivian Girls) I kinda like this new track from their upcoming album. It might be that I just got back from vacation from Hunting Beach (Surf City USA) and I drank in some 60's surf rock nostalgia when I was boogy boarding on my 7 year old daughters Wal Mart boogy board or something...who knows? Not me!

Tonight In Phoenix: Son Volt & Cowboy Junkies @ Mesa Arts Center

If you're a fan of "alt-country" music then boy are you in luck tonight. You can catch Son Volt tonight at the Mesa Arts Center as they perform tracks from their latest release American Central Dust. Fans of the band can read an interview with Phoenix New Times music editor Martin Cizmar and Son Volt's Jay Farrar over at the Up on the Sun blog. Cowboy Junkies open the show.

mp3: WHY? "This Blackest Purse"

WHY? have a new album coming out sometime later this year called Eskimo Snow and when bands have albums coming out they sometimes release songs from the albums BEFORE the album comes out, I can only assume that it's some sort of trick to get you interested in the album in advance so you will be more willing to purchase it when it actually comes out, but there is really no way of knowing this since it would be pretty silly for the band to admit to such chicanery so I guess we will never really know. Despite their obvious ploy I am going to post their new song "This Blackest Purse" anyway and deal with the inevitable consequences later.

New Music Tuesday: The Dead Weather, Beastie Boys, The Silent Years,

Jack White's latest rock collaboration, The Dead Weather, release their debut album today, Horehound. I've only had a chance to listen to the album briefly but from what I've heard I'd picking this one up is a safe bet. I'll be happy when we get a new White Stripes album but in the mean time this will hold me over.

You can also pick up the deluxe reissue of the Beastie Boys classic 1994 album Ill Communication. The hip-hop classic has been remastered and contains a bonus disc of b-sides and remixes.

Also out today is The Silent Years' new EP Let Go. Which I reviewed back in May.

Here is a full list of recommended new albums out today. Be sure to support your local record store by going out and picking some good new music.

Baby Teeth: Hustle Beach

Beastie Boys: Ill Communication

Clutch: Strange Cousins from the West

David Bowie: VH1 Storytellers

The Dead Weather: Horehound

Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros: Up from Below

New Roman Times: On The Sleeve

The Silent Years: Let Go

Various Artists: (500) Days Of Summer-Music From The Motion Picture

Pearl Jam New Album Release Date Set

I accidentally typed in "pear jam" when I was look for a good Pearl Jam pick and this came up so I smacked a big blue "L" on there and called it good...because let's face it, as much as I love Pearl Jam, pear jam sounds delicious right? On September 20th of this very year you will be able to stroll into your local Target and purchase Backspacer and it will probably even be on sale. Or not since you can only buy it at target so they won't have any competition but who knows. On second though who the hell buys music at Target anyway?

Video: The Dead Weather - "Treat Me Like Your Mother"

Here is the video for "Treat Me Like Your Mother" off of The Dead Weather's album Horehound. The video was directed by veteran music video director Jonathan Glazer and features a pretty simple concept, Jack White and Alison Mosshart shooting lots and lots of bullets into each other. Jack White does look pretty bad ass in this video.

You can pick up The Dead Weather's album Horehound this Tuesday(7/13) from Third Man Records.

Tonight In Phoenix: Jenny Lewis @ Marquee Theatre, Rural Alberta Advantage @ Modified Arts

Two excellent shows to choose from tonight in Phoenix.

First up is Jenny Lewis playing at Marquee Theatre in Tempe. As we mentioned earlier this week, we were a little disapointed with Lewis' last album Acid Tongue but her album before that Rabbit Fur Coat is a tough act to follow. I spent the better part of 2006 listening to that album and count as one of my favorite albums of all time. Heartless Bastards open up the show.

Canadian indie rockers The Rurual Alberta Advantage will be playing their latest album Hometowns at Modified Arts. The album was originally released independently in 2008 to critical acclaim and finally got a proper release after the band signed with Saddle Creek earlier this year. Local favorites Yellow Minute and Really Big Birds open the show.

Asians Doing Christopher Walken Impressions

Okay, okay...I know this isn't music related. But, if there are two things I love most in this life it's people doing Christopher Walken impressions and Asians. Put those two things together and you've got some comedy gold. This was seen last night on Tosh.0, a new and very funny show on Comedy Central.

Video: Cass McCombs - "You Saved My Life"

I'll be honest with you, I'm not crazy about this video. The video is just singer Cass McCombs wandering around through some street fair mixed with a minute or two of a couple dancing in front of some weird lights. Boring. But, "You Saved My Life", is a great song and just one of many off of McCombs' latest album Catacombs. The album recently grabbed a "best new music" nod from Pitchfork and was also listed as one of the years best albums so far by Gorilla vs Bear.

Video: Jenny Lewis - "See Fernando"

I found myself a little disappointed by Jenny Lewis' 2008 album, Acid Tongue, but her previous effort, Rabbit Fur Coat, is a tough act to follow. There were some decent songs produced off of Acid Tongue, though and "See Fernando" was definitely one of them. The video for "See Fernando" plays out like a trailer to early 60's spy move. Very cool video.

And don't forget that you can catch Jenny Lewis this Saturday(7/11)at Marquee Theatre along with Heartless Bastards. Should be a great show.

mp3: These United States - "I Want You to Keep Everything"

My fellow blog contributor, Shawn, has been on vacation all week and is currently making a stop in Vegas before heading to California but made it a point to let me know that one of his favorite bands, These United States, have a new mp3 available. Since he went through all that trouble I figure I'd go ahead and post it. It's what he would have wanted.

The song "I Want You To Keep Everything" comes off These United States forthcoming album Everything Touches Everything which is out 9/1 on United Interests.

mp3: Yim Yames - "Behind That Locked Door"

Turns out that Jim James of My Morning Jacket is a huge fan of George Harrison. So much so that shortly after the former Beatles death in 2001 he recorded a six song tribute to Harrison. James will be releasing the EP under the billing of Yim Yames and simply calling it Tribute To. The EP will feature songs of Harrison's from his days with the Beatles as well as his solo work.

Yames' cover of Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" is really quite good. You can stream the six track EP in full at Yim Yames website and download the track "Behind That Locked Door" free and legal.

You can pick up Tribute To when it hit stores August 4th.

Download: Yim Yames - "Behind That Locked Door"

Stream The Dead Weather's "Horehound"

Jack White's latest group The Dead Weather are streaming their debut album, Horehound, in full over on Facebook today. I've only had a chance to listen to a few tracks so far, but from what I've heard so far the new album is definitely worth picking up when the album is released next Tuesday(7/14).

Listen: The Dead Weather - Horehound

mp3: Jay Reatard - "Wounded"

The song "Wounded" is the second single to come from Jay Reatard's latest album, Watch Me Fall. The new album, which is available from Matador, comes out 8/18.

Is The Edge 103.9 Due For A Change? Part 2

Yesterday we mentioned that it appeared as if local radio station The Edge 103.9 could possibly be changing formats. Turns out we were right, but unfortunately not in the way we would have liked.

The Up on the Sun blog just broke the news that The Edge 103.9 is now under the control of Riveria Broadcasting's creditors and will be undergoing a format change.

What exactly is the change they are referring to? More music from the '90's. Not much of a change if you ask me.

I could go off on a nice, long rant here but there really isn't any point to it. There is always my trusty iPod to listen to during my commute to and from work.

Click here to read to rest of the story from Up on the Sun.

And if you find this news as annoying as I do please click here to find out how you can support Radio Phoenix. This news just goes to show how desperately this city is in need of a community run radio station that actually plays new and interesting music.

Video: Blitzen Trapper - "Black River Killer"

Very cool new video from Portland's own Blitzen Trapper. The song "Black River Killer" comes off of Blitzen Trapper's fantastic 2008 album Furr.

New Music Tuesday: Bowerbirds, Tiny Vipers, Son Volt

There are quite a few new releases worth checking out this week. My favorite of the group has to be the latest album from the North Carolina duo Bowerbirds entitled Upper Air.

Also out today is Tiny Vipers' Life On Earth, Cass McCombs' Catacombs, and Rural Alberta Advantage's Hometowns. All three of which I highly recommend.

You can see a full list of albums we recommend down below but before we get to that I'd like to get something off of my chest.

The other day our humble little blog got called out because when we link to these albums we link to Amazon. We link to Amazon for a couple of reasons(mainly because we get money every time you buy something from Amazon) but that doesn't mean that we don't strongly encourage you to support your local record stores like Stinkweeds, Zia, Hoodlums, or wherever you go to buy new music.

So check out our list of recommended new releases this week and get your ass down to your local record store and buy something already. Oh, and tell 'em ElectricMustache.com sent you.

Bowerbirds: Upper Air

Discovery: LP

Cass McCombs: Catacombs

The New Pornographers: ELECTRIC VERSION

Rural Alberta Advantage: Hometowns

Son Volt: American Central Dust

Those Darlins: Those Darlins

Tiny Vipers: Life On Earth

We Were Promised Jetpacks: These Four Walls

Is The Edge 103.9 Due For A Change?

I've never had many nice things to say about The Edge 103.9. And as the saying goes, 'if you don't have anything nice to say..." I admit that of all of the major FM stations here in the valley The Edge is probably my favorite. But that doesn't mean there isn't a lot of room for improvement.

My main complaint about The Edge is the increasingly stale playlist and lack of air play for anything not mainstream. The station, from my perspective anyways, is stuck in the 90's and what current artists they do play is made up of a seemingly very small group of artists. Enough with Kings of Leon, already!

I can't really fault The Edge too much, though. That's just the way corporate radio works. It's all about ratings and stations have to play what brings in ratings.

But, from the looks of things we might be seeing some changes at The Edge. And hopefully for the better.

Since last Friday the radio station has been DJ-less and has been focusing more on the music. They did air the nationally syndicated Kevin & Bean show this morning, however. If you head to The Edge's website you'll be prompted to participate in a survey on how they can improve the station.

Before you get too excited, though, this isn't the first time I can remember The Edge promising change. Just a few years ago listeners were encouraged to call the then general manager of the station and leave a voicemail of how they could improve the station. The result? We got some Ramones and Sex Pistols added to the stations rotation but ultimately not much changed.

Still, it's worth taking the survey in the hopes that it'll make a difference. I'm not holding my breath, though. I still foresee more 'Edge of the 90's' weekends in my future. Hooray!

Tonight In Phoenix: Deer Tick @ Modified Arts

You can catch Deer Tick tonight(07/06) at Modified Arts. The band will be playing some tunes off of their latest album, Born On Flag Day, an album that I've really enjoyed listening to. Joining Deer Tick tonight are Dawes and local favorites Gospel Claws and Matthew Reveles. Should be a great show.

Video: Drake - "Best I Ever Had"

Toronto based rapper Drake already has a lot of buzz about him for not even having an album out yet. So much buzz, in fact, that he managed to get Kanye West to direct his debut music video. The video for "Best I Ever Had" looks as if it should have been called "Chest I Ever Had". Zinger!!! Thank Me Later, Drake's debut album is out later this year.

mp3: Neon Indian - "Terminally Chill"

Here is a new track from Neon Indian's forthcoming LP Psychic Chasms, which is available from Lefse Records on 10/13. This is a perfect jam for your 4th of July cookout. Enjoy!

[The track plays kind of wonky in our media player for some reason. Click on the link below to give a listen]

Tonight In Phoenix: Jay-Z @ Dodge Theatre, Roger Alan Wade @ The Rhythm Room

Jay-Z performs tonight at Dodge Theatre along with fellow rapper Fabolous. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online here.

Also in town tonight is Roger Alan Wade. Wade is perhaps best known as being Johnny Knoxville's cousin but is a pretty awesome country musician. You can catch Roger Alan Wade at The Rhythm Room.

Tonight In Phoenix: Kinch, Dry River Yacht Club @ Modified Arts

It's a good night tonight for fans of local music. You can head over to The Rhythm Room to catch some of our local favorites. Kinch, Dry River Yacht Club, Austin Gibbs, and Michelle Blades all perform tonight at 8 pm. It costs $8 to get in and some proceeds of the show will go to benefit Local First Arizona. So go out, listen to some excellent local music and help support a good cause while you're at it.

mp3: Tiny Vipers - "Development"

Seattle based band Tiny Vipers will be releasing their second album next week(7/7) on Sub Pop. The new album, Life On Earth, is already being described by a couple of different sources as one of the best of the year. It's hard to disagree from what we've heard so far. This latest mp3, for the song "Development", comes courtesy of Stereogum.
