Best of 2010...So Far (Part 2)

If there is two things that I love in this world it is rock music and lists. So when Shawn suggested we put together a list of our favorite albums of the year so far, I said what the heck. This year has seen some really great releases, some of which did not make it on the list and to be honest figuring out which ones to be on the list was a little tricky. Except for the top 3, which are hands down my favorite releases of the year so far. Unless something comes along and really blows me away in the second half of this year I don't really see that changing but we'll see.

New Music Tuesday: The Tallest Man on Earth, MGMT, All Leather, Dosh, Nels Cline

Golly gee wiz this week is bound to stir up some controversy in the land of people who hate or love or the much larger group, are completely indifferent to the new MGMT album Congratulations. I for one am on team "Really Like It A Lot But Not Necessarily LOVE or Anything Like That". I will tell you what I DO love... The Wild Hunt from The Tallest Man on Earth.

Video: MGMT "Flash Delirium"

I'm still not completely sold on this song. In fact, when I first heard "Flash Delirium," the first single off MGMT's sophomore album Congratulations, I couldn't believe this was the first song they chose to go with on the new record. I assumed a few listens and the track would grow on me but that doesn't seem to be the case. The video, however, for "Flash Delirium" is pretty amazing. The video, which was directed by Andreas Nilsson who also directed the equally weird video for "If I Had A Heart" from Fever Ray, really can't be described, it just has to be watched.

Stream MGMT's New Album... All Of It

I am not sure what to make of this new album yet. I have listened to most of it and my first thoughts are that it's pretty weird but it not sucky like I was expecting. Take a listen on NPR then come back here and leave some comments or something.

Or just leave comments about how you are NOT going to listen to the album on NPR and all of your suggestions of different combinations of putting my head into my ass for even suggesting it to you in the first place... just do something to let me know you are alive.

New MGMT Album This April

 

During an interview with MTV recently MGMT let it slip that we could see a new album from them as soon as this April.   And now that there is a clock counting down to April 13th, which is a Tuesday by the way, on MGMT's website it seems to be pretty much confirmed at this point.  

Normally, I don't post much about new album releases until I have at least a mp3 or video to go with it but I thought this would be worth mentioning for one reason: I am so sick of the song "Kids" by MGMT that I'm hoping a new album worth of material will convince people to stop playing that song. 

Don't get me wrong folks, MGMT's album Oracular Spectacular was a good if not great album.  And the song "Kids" was alright the first hundred times I heard it.  But since its 2007 release I have heard the song "Kids" ad nauseum.  I know I use our very own Edge, er uh, X 103.9 as a punching bag quite often but it's a fact that they play that song so often that I want to I stab my ear drums every time it comes on.  It's not even the best song on the album, you guys, c'mon!

So, MGMT, if you're reading this, and I hope you are, please, please, please make a good album so that radio stations not just here but everywhere will put that awful song to bed.

I really really love this song. It's the perfect mesh of stuff that doesn't suck. What do YOU know about night terrors? Nothing, that's what I thought.
