The National "Sea Of Love"

It's cliché to say that I am really excited about the new record, but I am nothing if not a cliché... touché, to myself.

Oh and this is the video they are "paying homage" to, if you care...

The National "Exile Vilify"

I would be remiss if I didn't post this new song from The National, one of my favorite all time bands. This song is almost making me want to buy Portal 2, even though I DON'T WANT TO buy Portal 2.

The National Make Just Another Normal Video

This video is the combination of a lot of my favorite things… If I was Oprah and was in charge of making a video this would be the video I would make. The weird thing is, this is exactly what I always imagined when I heard this song.

Bonus animated GIF that has nearly nothing to do with anything...

The National Live In NYC Via MTV?

Who doesn't love some high production value concert footage from great bands? I don't... not love that? What? Unfortunately we have to sometimes get that kind of stuff from the bowels of Satan himself... MTV. But whatevs, I will take it where I can get it. On a related note, did you know that MTV2 currently in 2011, for several hours in a row play the sitcom Martin, starring Martin Lawrence... this is on the channel that could be playing videos of awesome bands like The National on actual TV rather than the internet, but instead they choose to play Martin? A show that was on from 1992 to 1997, WTF? I get that watching a bunch of retarded over tanned whores acting like whores will attract a larger viewership than the latest video from Cut Copy, but re-runs of Martin... insulting.

Oh Coachella 2011! Kings Of Leon? What Up Wit Dat?

Will this finally be the year that I go to Coachella? I really should go. Who knows when I will get the chance to see Kings Of Leon, Big Audio Dynamite, Cage the Elephant or Brandon Flowers? This is really a once in a lifetime opportunity to see these amazing bands in the most comfortable and accommodating way possible. How much?

Just kidding, even thought there are a few questionable acts scheduled there are so many more good ones that it doesn't even matter. People should just take several chill pills. I actually really DO want to go to Coachella this year. I went to Mayhem Fest AND the Warped Tour last year, so I can't imagine Coachella being any hotter or any more miserable than those painful feats of endurance were. I am a trooper dammit! I can handle it.

New Music Tuesday: Kanye, Girls, Florence + The Machine

Not a whole lot of new stuff today but what is out is pretty great. I will be the first to admit that Kanye West is a complete lunatic, but most geniuses are totally nuts. The new Girls EP is also pretty great, so you should get that. Check out the rest of the list after the break...

The National & Owen Pallett Tonight @ The Marquee In Tempe

If you are not aware that The National are playing tonight then you probably don't like The National. If you are THAT person you suck. So that means I am writing this for the people that didn't know The National were playing because they have never heard of them before. So just be cool and watch the above video. Done? Ok cool. Now most likely you now like The National, because it's almost impossible to have watched that video and not like them. So now you just need to head to Tempe tonight and watch them. Your welcome.

And if that wasn't enough incentive Owen Pallett is the main support!

Tickets are $32 HERE

Not that lists are anything new, and mid year reviews are no exception. But once again we have been meaning to put together a list for few weeks now but we were beaten to it thus forcing our hand to actually make one. So here is MY list of MY favorite albums of the year so far. Check back tomorrow for Mike's. It will have a couple cross overs but maybe not. Especially not Sleigh Bells I can assure you of that.

mo3: The National "Blood Buzz Ohio"

The new The National album is probably my most eagerly anticipated new album since Veckatimest and it's still almost two months away.

That is like 8 months in salmon years so you can imagine how "on edge" I am. They did just release the studio version of "Blood Buzz Ohio" to follow up on the BBC version they did a year or so ago. I might tide me over for awhile.

High Violet is out May 11th on 4ad

Video: The National "The Runaway"

Here be a new The National song live recorded in a place that enables the ability to capture the sound a band plays out of their instruments.

We are pretty excited about anything new out of The National camp since considering how long it's been since Boxer came out, "So Far Around the Bend" is absolutely on my top ten of 2009 list but I fear that is has not satisfied my appetite...this new song might quell my hunger for a little while. They closest they are coming to our neck of the woods is San Fran when the play the Outside Lands Festival on Aug 29th

The National | "So Far Around The Bend" (Video)

If you haven't picked up the charity compilation Dark Was the Nightyet, then please do so now. Not only is the album jam packed with great songs but by purchasing the album you are helping to support a great cause. Speaking of great songs, here is a video featuring one of my favorite songs from Dark Was The Night by The National entitled "So Far Around The Bend". Brothers Bryce and Aaron Dessner, of The National, not only lent this song to the album but also helped co-produce it as well. You can expect to see more videos like the one above featuring live performances from other artists who performed on Dark Was The Night.

In related news, if you happen to be in NYC on Sunday, May 3rd, you can see Dark Was The Night Live at Radio City Music Hall. The concert will feature several of the artists that contributed to the compilation including Dave Sitek, Dirty Projectors, Feist, My Brightest Diamond, The National, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and more. Should be fantastic show.
