Video: Volcano Choir - "Island, IS"

It's just kinda been a Justin Vernon type week here at the 'Stache. First there was the amazing Bon Iver concert last night and now we've got a video from Justin Vernon's other project Volcano Choir. I personally have really been enjoying Volcano Choir's debut album Unmap since it came out last week. And, it's not just me either, the album just recently got the "best new music" nod from Pitchfork. Out of all the songs on the album, "Island, IS" is easily the standout track and while I'm happy to see a video for it I wish they would've done a little more with it.

The album Unmap is available now on Jagjaguwar.

Photos: The Horrors at The Clubhouse 9/28/2009

The Horrors at The Clubhouse

Hey, remember earlier when I said that it was really dark at The Horrors show last night, well being as that I am a totally amateur photographer I present to you a bunch of lame pictures of a great show from a great band...after the break.

Check out the rest of them on our Flickr page HERE

Tonight In Phoenix: Bon Iver, !!!, Cave Singers

For as long as I've been writing for the 'Stache I don't think that there has ever been a time with as many big name acts playing on the same night.

I know there has been some debate on who is going to see who but the moment that I saw that Bon Iver was playing, it pretty much became a no-brainer for me.  And while some might consider Justin Vernon aka Bon Iver "overrated" I could not disagree with them more.  Bon Iver's debut album For Emma, Forever Ago was my hands down favorite album of 2008 and quite possibly my favorite album of all time.  I'm fully expecting a fantastic show tonight at the Mesa Arts Center with Megafaun opening the show.

The other big show tonight is over at The Rhythm Room with !!!, Cave Singers, Lightning Dust and Indian Jewlery.  It's actually a bit of a bummer that both this show and the Bon Iver show are taking place on the same night as I'd love to see both.

Portland rockers Portugal. The Man will play at The Clubhouse tonight.

Grab your face paint and your Faygo for the Insane Clown Posse and HedPe at the Marquee Theatre in Tempe tonight.

And if you really want to hurt our feeling and make us never want to talk to you again you can go see Creed at Jobing.com Arena.  You've been warned.

mp3: Rival Consoles "1985"

If you are in the mood to blow your brains out your ears via your headphones then put them the hell on on turn up your Mac/PC to a very high volume and let 1985 by Rival Consoles do it's work.

It's not the best song in the whole world as far as innovation or anything but it is catchy and very bassy*. Even if you don't like technoey*, house or whatever the hell this is called it's still pretty cool. So I guess that does make it good after all.

Rival Consoles -
"1985"

*Um...are these even words?

Stream Kurt Vile's "Childish Prodigy"

We've been talking about Philadelphia singer-songwriter Kurt Vile's new album, Childish Prodigy, for a while now and even though we've still got a month to go before the album is released on Matador you can stream the whole thing on this handy-dandy widget.

No need to thank us.  We're just doing our job.

Stream the album after the jump.

New Music Tuesday: The Avett Brothers, Ghostface Killah

Although there are not quite as many quality new releases to choose from this week as there was last week, there are still some very good albums out this week.

My personal favorite new release comes from The Avett Brothers.  I have to admit that I wasn't too familiar with the North Carolina band but upon listening to their latest album, I and Love and You, I was hooked.

Another album worth checking out this week is the Ghostface Killah's latest album Ghostdini the Wizard of Poetry.  See a full list of our recommended new releases down below.

7 Worlds Collide - Sun Came Out

The Avett Brothers - I and Love and You

Chromeo - DJ-Kicks

Cymbals Eat Guitars - Why There Are Mountains

Dethklok - Dethalbum II

Ghostface Killah - Ghostdini the Wizard of Poetry

Karen O - Where The Wild Things Are Original Motion Picture Soundtrack: Original Songs By Karen O And The Kids

Om - God Is Good

Zero 7 - Yeah Ghost

Videos: The Horrors at The Clubhouse 9/28/09

Hey Kids! They Horrors show last night was creepy fucking good. If you missed it (you suck) here are some videos that you can watch and pretend you were there. If you WERE there you can watch them and relive those glory days of yesteryear/last night. For some reason they like playing in the dark so I apologize for the lack of "being able to see shit" for most of the time.

I will have some pics up later on today. Taking a little bit longer to get those going due to the previously mentioned "playing in the dark" thing.

Two more vids after the break.

Tonight In Phoenix

Norwegian electro-rockers Datarock bring those sweet ass red tracksuits to The Rhythm Room tonight.

It's the live debut of The Horrors in Tempe tonight.  Also on the bill for that show are the Crocodiles who just released one of my favorite albums of the year, Summer of Hate

The Killers play Dodge Theatre.

Psyko Steve is presenting a show tonight at Trunk Space with Gardening Not Architecture along with Gavin Castelson and Tugboat.

Division Day play a show at Stinkweeds.

Video: Au Revoir Simone "Shadows"

"Shadows" is hands down my favorite song of Au Revoir Simone's latest album Still Night, Still Light and one of my favorite songs of the year overall, so when I heard that crazy movie director David Lynch also has strong feeling for them and was directing a video I was so excited I forgot how to properly format a sentence!

Check out the nice things David has to say about the girls by clicking HERE There is also an interview worth watching HERE

Video: Taken By Trees - "My Boys"

Here is the video for "My Boys" which comes off of Taken By Trees latest album East of Eden. The song, which is a cover of Animal Collective's "My Girls", is definitely one of my favorite tracks off of the new album, which I really like a lot.

You can pick up East of Eden now from Rough Trade.

PHOTOS: TITUS ANDRONICUS AT MODIFIED ARTS 9/26/09

Titus Andronicus 9-26-09_ (245)

On one of the hottest late September days I can remember I piled into Modified Arts this past Saturday and saw/heard/felt Titus Andronicus put on a show that was so good I am not even going to write a review.

If you didn't go yourself you probably don't care. If you DID you then you probably already read the much better than I would do review by Frances Michelle Lopez over at the New Times.

What I can provide you with is pictures of the show and one video. As usuaul I took WAYYY to many pictures. I have about a dozen of them here in this post (after the break) and about 130 more on our Flickr page HERE.

Modified Arts No Longer Hosting Indie Shows

A bit of bummer was just reported by the Up On The Sun blog over at Phoenix New Times.  One of our favorite venues for shows, Modified Arts, will take a change in direction and no longer host "big indie rock shows."  Modified Arts was not without its problems.  The sound at Modified wasn't the best in town, it was always really hot and sometimes it could smell like poop, but all things considered it was still a great place to get very up close to and some times rub elbows with some of today's best indie music acts.

I won't rehash the whole story here, if you want all the details go check out the story at Up On The Sun here.

What do you guys think?  Are you bummed to see Modified Arts go as a venue for indie shows?  Discuss.

VIDEO: PHOENIX "LISZTOMANIA" ON FALLON

Say what you will about Jimmy Fallon but the dude has good taste in music and the Barry Gibb sketch on SNL is still one of the best ever...EVER! Don't agree? Give it another watch after the break.

This video proves that with a little imagination and access to an archive of old T.V. commercials and I would imagine a whole shit ton of time you can make something really spectacular. The song is from the Winter Gloves album About a Girl that came out last March.

TONIGHT IN PHOENIX: HOLY ROLLING EMPIRE, TURN BACK O MAN, TELEFON TEL AVIV

Turn Back, O Man at Modified Arts 6/29/2009
Turn Back O Man

Some pretty dang good show going on tonight in our humble city.

You could head on over to Modified Arts and check out Tucson's own Holy Rolling Empire with Dylan Thomas and Pals, Judith's Apple & The Red Delicious and Austin Gibbs at 7pm ($5 tix at the door)

Or you if totally free and beer is more your style Turn Back O Man is playing at The Lost Leaf with Vanessa Atalanta at 9:30pm ($free)

If you are in a trippy psychedelic mood Telefon Tel Aviv from New Orleans is your best bet at The Rhythm Room at 8pm ($10 tix)

Looking at the times and close proximity of all of these shows you might be able to go to more than one if you time it out just right. Go for the Gold!

There is some other stuff going on also that you can check out on Silverplatter.info

HAWNAY TROOF "DAGGERS AT THE MOON" ALBUM REVIEW 7.1 BEARDS

What I am going to tell you is very very important... Vice Cooler (the man behind Hawnay Troof) is fucking insane. Not insane in a bad way though. More of an "evil genius" kind of way. Or on the other hand he might be completely sane and hell bend on creating music that can fuck with your senses so much YOU go insane. Either way I want to out drinking with him. The new album Daggers at the Moon is not the best album of the year but it has managed to combine the crazy ass electronic music styling of Dan Deacon with vocals that sound like a combination of Ween and Prince. The only problem I have with this album is that I am not really sure what to do whilst listening to it. I think I am going to try a few different activities and see what works best. I like lists so lets make one...after the break that is.

VIDEO: MONSTERS OF FOLK "SAY PLEASE" ON CONAN

The new album from Monsters of Folk has been getting some mixed reviews in the office here, I have only had the chance to listen to a couple of tracks so far but what I HAVE heard I am giving a "thumbs up". They were on The Tonight Show last night playing "Say Please" and I think that went really well. Getting me even more excited for their upcoming show in Phoenix. I know that NBC isn't doing so hot in the ratings but you would think they could have at least provided M. Ward with a chair...am I right?

THE ALMIGHTY DEFENDERS ALBUM REVIEW 9.2 BEARDS

I have decided to make myself a better human. I am going to do this by writing more album reviews. I have been getting some shit recently for my "lack of detail" in describing the musicality of stuff, instead just telling people if it's good or shit. For me this is personally the "way to go" I think when people write about how something sounds it comes off as inane bullshit that only makes sense to...nobody actually, since the writer is just making it up in the first place. So I am going to stick to my "good or shit" method but pepper things a little with what I think the music "sounds like" but it will mostly be total bullshit...but on purpose.

So let's start the fun with The Almighty Defenders new "self titled" album called The Almighty Defenders ;-)

REAL ESTATE'S DEBUT ALBUM DETAILS

Personally since my house has dropped in value by about 200% since I bought it 3 years ago, real estate has NOT been my favorite thing. But Real Estate is doing a pretty good job of making me like the words "real estate" again, at least metaphorically.

I have only heard one song off their new self titled album (Beach Comber...listen below) and it has a nice "Spacey California" vibe (even through they are from New Jersey) that I have been getting into since Wavves earlier this year. Check out the track listing and some tour dates after the mp3 and break.

Real Estate -
"Beach Comber"

VIDEO: CURSIVE "LET ME UP"

I am not sure why all of these other websites are getting these exclusive videos of bands and we are not (other than The Mumlers) but at least Stereogum was nice enough to make Cursive's new video embeddable for us lowly neon colored blogs.

As for the video itself we have implied car explosions, super hot angels and we learn that hell/heaven is very tricky.

MUSIC GO MUSIC'S NEW VIDEO

Music Go Music has seriously got me hooked on them. I can't stop listening to their album and every time a new video comes out I watch it like 20 times in a row then that sets me off listening to their album over and over again.

Flavorwire.com has the exclusive on their new video for "Light Of Love" (bastards!) They also have a pretty good interview with front woman Gala Bell (aka Meredith Metcalf)where we learn that "Face Time" is not real, well its "real" but THEY invented it for their videos. But if you don't like to read at least watch the video.

And since we can't post the video here (yet) I will re-post this mp3 instead:

Music Go Music -
"Warm In The Shadows"

Head on over to flavorwire.com for the goods.

MP3: KID SISTER "RIGHT HAND HI"

If I was throwing a party (I never do) I would probably put together a sweet party mix (I wouldn't, I would just put it on shuffle) On this mix I would try to put things on there that made people want to "shake their asses" and "freak the fuck out" on the dance floor. I would probably include Girl Talk, Kid Cudi, MIA etc...and I would definitely put this song by Kid Sister on there.

Some people have accused me of being less than descriptive whilst talking about music so in the interest of continuing to do that I will just post the song below so you can listen to it yourself and save my us all the hyperbole.

A PSA From Will Ferrell & John Hamm

MP3: DEAD MAN'S BONES "IN THE ROOM WHERE YOU SLEEP"

If you recall I dig (get it?) Dead Man's Bones and NOT in a necrophiliac way either, I am talking about the only good band with an actor in it. Being the cordial people that they are they have sent us over a track from their upcoming album (self titled) called "In The Room Where You Sleep" and I think it is really good, good and very creepy. But you should be the judge of that after listening for yourself.

Dead Mans Bones -
"In The Room Where You Sleep"

MP3: BOBBY BIRDMAN "ONLY FOR A WHILE"

"Bobby Birdman has NEVER done ANYTHING to you, except to try to entertain you and make you feel good about yourself, so I just don't understand why you are being so mean to him!" Is what I would say to you if you were to talk shit about Bobby Birdman within earshot of me... So watch out!

MP3: DENT MAY AND HIS MAGNIFICENT UKULELE

The fabulously named Dent May has a new album coming out next year on Feb 3rd. Can you believe that we are already almost into next year? Like the sands of the hourglass or something, am I right? Well Dent May has been kind enough to send over a digital MP3 version of the song "Meet Me in The Garden" (not MEET not  MEAT, that would be gross) from the album that comes out in Feb called The Good Feeling Music of Dent May & His Magnificent Ukulele. If you ask me that is a very specific album title and I like that in an album title.

Check out the song and the track listing after the break.

Video: Flaming Lips - "I Can Be A Frog"

Here is the latest video from the Flaming Lips for their song "I Can Be A Frog." The track features Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and is off of the Lips twelfth album Embryonic.

Kudos to the young lady in this video for her awesome impersonations of various animals.

ATLAS SOUND AND BROADCAST COMING TO PHOENIX

This may/is probably oldish news but I don't remember hearing about it until just now so you might not have heard it either. But Broadcast and Atlas Sound are coming to Phoenix together and playing songs at The Rhythm Room on Nov 5th. I am pretty excited, do you know how you can tell? Because I just peed a little...just a little.

Check out the rest of the tour dates for our readers not living here in this town that I live in after the break.

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY: MONSTERS OF FOLK, WHY?, VOLCANO CHOIR

Holy crap there is a lot of good shit coming out today. WHY?, The Big Pink and Girls are ALL going to be high on various internet weblogs "best of the year" lists and they are all coming out on the same day! Just crazy man...crazy.

If you absolutely HATE Target's guts you can order Pearl Jam's Backspacer from another country (via import).

Plus the Monsters of Folk and Volcano Choir are excellent choices for your end of summer black tar hash party's (what?). Check out the full list (aside from the ones I probably missed) after the break.

Video: St. Vincent - "Marrow"

Here is the video for one of my favorite tracks off of St. Vincent's latest album Actor. The clip, for the song "Marrow", was directed by Terri Timely.

(via: Pitchfork)

TRACK LISTING FOR "NEW MOON" SOUNDTRACK

Here is the track listing for the New Moon soundtrack...I guess.

When I think of a "New Moon" I always think of an ass I have never seen before. Is that what that means? Is this movie going to be ass? I bet it is. Do you remember when Black Rebel Motorcycle Club was getting sued by the Hell's Angles? That was weird.

Apparently Stephen, Stephanie Meyer or whatever the hell her name is wields the power of god. I guess he "hand picked" all this music and then sent Mormon Jesus out to get it for her.

1. Death Cab For Cutie – Meet Me On The Equinox
2. Band Of Skulls – Friends
3. Thom Yorke- Hearing Damage
4. Lykke Li – Possibility
5. The Killers - A White Demon Love Song
6. Anya Marina – Satellite Heart
7. Muse - I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)
8. Bon Iver and St. Vincent – Rosyln
9. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Done All Wrong
10. Hurricane Bells – Monsters
11. Sea Wolf – The Violet Hour
12. Ok Go- Shooting The Moon
13. Grizzly Bear - Slow Life
14. Editors – No Sound But The Wind
15. Alexandre Desplat – New Moon (The Meadow)

Death Cab For Cutie "Meet Me on the Equinox"

MP3: THE GOLDEN FILTER "THUNDERBIRD"

I have been waiting for a new song from The Golden Filter for like months... or something and it has finally arrived. And it's called Thunderbird (also the name of my favorite hooch) and it's fucking rad. I still don't know when they are going to have a full length album out or even and EP but I really want them to do that kind of thing...oh and while they are at it maybe come to my town and play those songs for me in a live personal setting with speakers n' shit.

THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC AT MODIFIRED ARTS 9/18/09

The Most Serene Republic at Modified Arts 9/18/09

When you have to follow a performance like The Grates put on a lot of lesser bands would have probably just hightailed it back to the great white north. But NOT the The Most Serene Republic, all seven of them trotted upstage and showed Modified Arts whose boss. Apparently we were the best crowd they have had since coming to the U.S. I don't know if I am supposed to say this but we were "Way better then Vegas".

I have to admit these are not the best shots I have ever taken but to be fair I was outside talking when they stared playing so I lost my front stage vantage point because it was freaking packed... oh and they turned off the lights so that makes photography a challenge at best.

Check out more shots after the break and the whole set on our Flickr page HERE

THE GRATES AT MODIFIED ARTS 9/18/09

The Grates at Modified Arts 9/18/09

All I can say is WOW! OK, that's not ALL I am going to say but I could, and probably should since I am a shitty writer and all. But "WOW" sums it up just fine. Oh wait...I just remembered something I heard outside after the show that REALLY sums it up..."They were better than Christmas for poor people".

I didn't know what to expect going into this show but when I saw Patience Hodgson walk up on stage in a cowboy outfit straight out of Hee Haw I knew we were in for something awesome. And they were better than that. If fact I can say that they put on one of the best live performances I have seen ever. I would definitely put it in my personal top 10.

If you were there I dare you to not agree with me...go ahead just try. If you were NOT there then SHAME ON YOU! But don't be SUPER sad because they are coming back to town on Oct 25th with Those Darlins so don't fuck up and miss then twice.

Check out the rest of the pics after the break and a the whole set on our Flickr page HERE.

TONIGHT IN PHOENIX THE MOST SERENE REPUBLIC AT MODIFIED

Hopefully you have enough sense to stay away from the black eye on our city this weekend and are looking for some GOOD live music without the piles of soccer moms and douchebags that are going to be at the "Fall Frenzy".

If the answer is yes and I can only assume so since you are reading this blog and obviously have taste then you should head on over to Modified Arts tonight and check out The Most Serene Republic. They came all the way from Canada so it's the least you can do. The shit goes down later than usual due to the Third Friday Art Walk at 9:30 to 10ish and tickets are only $8 so you really have no excuses...that I know.

Check out the video for "The Men Who Live Upstairs" after the break.

Rock Plaza Central on Daytrotter

Toronto's own Rock Plaza Central (despite their somewhat less than desirable name) dropped by Daytrotter to lay down some live tracks that I find pleasing to the ear.

Here are a couple of my favs but you can head on over to Daytrotter to hear the rest.

Rock Plaza Central -
"Them That Are Good And Them That Are Bad"

Rock Plaza Central -
"(The World Is) Good Enough"

STREAM PEARL JAMS BACKSPACER

I have been a huge fan of Pearl Jam since Mother Love Bone (click and you will see if you don't already know) and aside from a couple mid career "not so good" albums I think they really "came back" with Pearl Jam in 2006 and so far Backspacer (6 songs in) is sounding just as good. Stream the whole album below and pick it up at Target (fucking weird right?) this Sunday. Let us know what you think in the comments please...for your own good.

IT'S OVER NOW..YOU CAN BUY THE ALBUM N' STUFF SO NO MORE FREEBIES I GUESS

STREAM GIRLS ENITRE "ALBUM" RIGHT NOW

If there is one thing you should do today it's taking a shower because you are stinky. But after you get out you should listen to Girls new album (inconveniently titled for illegal downloaders) Album it doesn't come out until next week on the 22nd. That is a whole 5 days of previewing...your welcome.

Girls "Album" by matadorrecs

The Big Pink + Lily Allen = GOOD ASS REMIX

When Lily Allen isn't flashing her bits n pieces all over the place and/or being totally drunk/high she is making pretty awesome pop music. Wait a minute, she is probably doing all those things at the same time. That just makes her a multi-tasker just like The Big Pink. They can put out awesome albums with awesome songs like "Dominos" and "Velvet" as well as remix good songs making them even better.

The closest I have ever come to this level of multi-tasking is drunk driving whilst eating Jack in the Box at 3am...Bacon Potato Wedges even... and you need a fork for those greasy bastards ;-)

Make a Video For Hawnay Troof

What you are going to do is click on this link HERE then download the song, then get a MP3 playing jambox. Then you are going to get a video camera and play the song on the jambox while you are videoing you parents getting a divorce. I am pretty sure that your footage will be the best and most interesting footage Mr. Troof receives.

If your parents are not planning on getting a divorce I am sure you have at least one friend that does.

Listen To Electric Mustache On BreakThru Radio

As we mentioned earlier this week the 'Stache was chosen as blog of the week by those awesome and sexy people over at BreakThru Radio.  In addition to them throwing up a few select posts from us on their blog they also interviewed us for their weekly Anatomy of a Blogger radio show hosted by DJ Mimi and allowed us to handpick the playlist.  Being that I hate the sound of my own recorded voice I suggest just skipping over the parts where we're talking and listen to the music.  There is a link to the show below and the songs we picked.

Listen:  ElectricMustache on BreakThru Radio

1.  Taken By Trees - "Watch The Waves"
2.  Kurt Vile - "Overnight Religion"
3.  The Cave Singers - "At The Cut"
4.  Gang Gang Dance - "First Communion"
5.  The xx - "Shelter"
6.  Japandroids - "Rockers East Vancouver"
7.  Girls - "Hellhole Ratrace"
8.  Micachu & The Shapes - "Just In Case"

Video: Neon Indian "Mi Viejo"

I am a big fan of Neon Indian's spacey electro pop sound but their cover of "Mi Viejo" really shows their raw musical talent and love of Southern Comfort tiny piano.
I can't wait hear their whole album Psychic Chasms coming out next month and REALLY can't wait to see them live in November.

NEW MUSIC TUESDAY: The Dodos, Or, the Whale, Kid Cudi

After last weeks barrage of good shit it's hard for a week to follow up but I think this week did a pretty good jorb! Porcupine Tree has been around a long time and they have always put out excellent stuff so I cant imagine that The Incident is going to disappoint. UPDATE...Apparently it CAN, because it's not very good...at all.

You know what has a really good chance of disappointing your ears? That Pete Yorn Scarlett Johansson thing that came out today... watch out now!

The Dodos - Time To Die
Or, the Whale - Or, the Whale
Muse - The Resistance
Porcupine Tree - The Incident NOT GOOD AT ALL
A Sunny Day In Glasgow - Ashes Grammar
Lovelikefire - Tear Ourselves Away (Import)
The Grates - Teeth Lost, Hearts Won
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
Cougar - Patriot
Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson - Break Up
Mason Jenninngs - Blood Of Man
Q-Tip - Kamaal the Abstract
Fink - Sort of Revolution
Protest The Hero - Gallop Meets The Earth

Photos and Videos: Chairlift at The Rhythm Room 9/14/2009

Chairlift took time out of their busy lives of being on iPod commercials and being nominated for MTV Video Awards to play a show in front of a very excited crowd at The Rhythm Room last night and it was awesome. Even the people that I overheard talking about leaving and going to the "leather and or gay" bar stuck around and I am pretty sure enjoyed themselves despite the lack of any S or M.

Check out more photos as well as live video of "Bruises" and "Earwig Town" after the break. Please also check out a bunch more pics from the show on our Flickr page HERE.

Stream New Volcano Choir Album Over At NPR

I've been giddily awaiting Justin Vernon's collaboration with fellow Wisconsin band Collections of Colonies of Bees since I first saw it was announced.  I've still got a week to go until its September 22nd release date but you and I can both stream the album in full over at NPR.

Stream:  Volcano Choir, Unmap

Video: Clues - "You Have My Eyes Now"

Update:  So, yeah, we're kinda dumb.  Turns out that Tim Heidecker didn't actually direct this video as we had originally thought.  Matt Wells is actually the director of the above video.  Brilliant job Matt, well done!

Our love of Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim of Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! has been well documented. These guys can do no wrong in our books. Eric Wareheim has taken the Tim & Eric style comedy and translated it very nicely into music videos for several big name bands. Now, Tim Heidecker has thrown his hat into the video directing arena by directing this video for the band Clues.

The video, for the song "You Have My Eyes Now, is from the Montreal bands latest self-titled album out now on Constellation.

Enjoy!

New Death Cab for Cutie "Meet Me On The Equinox"

Jesus Christ what is going on with this Twilight non sense? I have actually seen the first movie and it made me want to do the opposite of living forever. The song is pretty good I guess... for a song written exclusively for a Twilight soundtrack.

Peachcake Visits Daytrotter

Local electro-pop group Peachcake recently stopped by the Daytrotter studios where they performed several tracks from their albums We Should've Never Released This and What Year Will You Have The World?  If you've ever caught Peachcake live then these live performances should make you feel right at home.

Listen:  Peachcake Daytrotter Sessions

Tonight In Phoenix: Throw Me The State, Chairlift

throw me the statue

Tonight was suppose to be Micachu & The Shapes playing with Chairlift at The Rhythm Room, but Micachu & The Shapes cancelled.  Super lame, but oh well.  You can still catch Chairlift tonight along with John Maus and Yellow Minute

Throw Me The Statue play tonight at Modified Arts with support from The Brunettes and Nurses.

Electric Mustache Is Blog of the Week!

Hey, everybody!  Just thought I would pass along the info that our humble little blog has been chosen as 'blog of the week' by Breakthru Radio.  I'm just as surprised as you are, but it's true.  Those awesome people over at Breakthru Radio will put up a few selected posts from us all week and interviewed us for their weekly Anatomy of a Blogger show hosted by DJ Mimi.  They even let us pick the playlist.  So check out Breakthru Radio all week as we try to show some love to some local bands and then listen this Thursday as Shawn and I spout a bunch on nonsense on the radio.

mp3: Little Girls "Heinz" (Artery Cover)

To be honest I have never heard of the band Artery, apparently they are a UK "post-punk" group that is a "major influence" on Little Girls...ewww that sounded really gross. Speaking of that, do you know how hard it is to find a picture of the band "Little Girls" on Google? Chris Hansen is going to be over hear asking me to "take a seat" anytime now. I am getting pretty sick of these ambiguous band names, "Women", "Girls", "Little Girls"...don't they realize the search engine nightmare they are causing?

Not sure if I even like this song...check it out and let us know what you think.

Little Girls -
"Heinz" (Artery Cover)

Video: Manna "Some Girls/Some Boys"

I have never been to Finland but if this Manna video is even a little bit what it's like there I will see you in Helsinki (Manna is from Finland and Helsinki is IN Finland, it's also the capitol...dummy)

Video: Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys - "Empire State of Mind" (Live @ 2009 MTV VMAs)

I don't remember when exactly I swore off the awfulness that is the MTV Video Music Awards but it's been a few years. Of course, every year I decide that I'll give it another chance and without fail I'm reminded why I hate MTV. Last night was no exception. The pre-show where the endlessly hyped the fact that they were showing a brand new trailer for New Moon was excruciating, Russel Brand was awful, and Lady Gaga just looked ridiculous.

Admittedly, there is usually at least one good live performance that manages to come out of that hot mess of a show. This year, as I figured it would be, was Jay-Z and Alicia Keys performing "Empire State of Mind" off of Jay-Z's Blueprint 3. I'm totally digging this album, and this track is my hands down favorite. Alicia Keys chorus on this song is flawless and makes me want to immediately book a ticket to NYC.

Jay-Z's Blueprint 3 is available now on Jay's label Rocnation.

Stream q-tips new album

I have been a huge Q-Tip fan since 1990's People's Instinctive Travels and the Paths of Rhythm "I Left My Wallet in El Segundo" is one of my all time favorite raps songs. As of today you can head on over to Q-Tips myspace page HERE and stream his entire new album Kamaal/The Abstract (out Sept 15th). I have listened to the first few tracks and I am not in love with it, but I might just need to give it a few more listens. Let us know what you think. In fact let us know what you don't think also. It's Friday so I am sure nobody is even going to read this because we you are already drunk off your asses and playing The Beatles Rock Band.

LAKE Coming to trunk space in nov

The band called LAKE is coming to Trunk Space on November 14th. I am going to be out of town that day so that makes me sad, I will be in Disneyland so that might cheer me up. After the break I have provided you with their full tour schedule as well as their new mp3 called "Don't Give Up" are I not a gracious host?

Video: Princeton "Martina and Clive Krantz"

Fridays are for videos and videos crime apparently. Princeton, who named themselves after the street the grew up on in L.A. (very gangsta of them) NOT the prestigious Ivy League school in New Jersey, get murdered by one of the people from that movie with Dennis from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

mp3: Au Revoir Simone "Another Likely Story" (Neon Indian Remix)

One of my favorite songs of the year Au Revoir Simone's "Another Likely Story" from one of my favorite albums of the year Still Night, Still Light done got itself remixed by Neon Indian one of my favorite bands of the year. So this song makes me as happy as a "pig in shit", or "eggs in a blender"...not sure if that last one makes sense or is in fact even a real saying.
