Stream Hot Chip's "One Life Stand" At Thier MySpace

Hot Chip will be releasing their latest album on February 9th on Astralwerks but you can listen to the album - legally - right now by streaming the new album One Life Stand in full over at the bands MySpace page.  I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of the album last week and I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed at first.  But after a few listens I'm happy to report that I'm really digging this latest effort from Hot Chip.  If you like what you hear you can pre-order the album here.

Listen:  Hot Chip - One Life Stand

Video: Clipd Beaks "Blood"

I got a feeling that these dudes (Clipd Beaks) are really going to blow up this year. Or maybe not. I just had a way over priced lunch that I had to park really far away to get, so I might be a little of my "future prediction" game... but I don't think so. And also this video is pretty dark and haunting and that is what people are into this year I think.

This Weekend In The Greater Phoenix Area: Black Carl, Source Victoria, Yellow Minute

Black Carl @ The Rhythm Room 12-22-09 (10 of 19)

There is a ton of stuff going on this weekend so I am going to tell you what I suggest/am doing then send you on over to silverplatter.info to check everything else out. I know you are all adults and you can make your own decisions in life. And it mostly a really slow news day.

Tonight I will probably head on down to the Sail Inn and see the best "live band in Phoenix"... Black Carl. Tomorrow I was planning on seeing Black Carl and Yellow Minute at The Compound Grill in Scottsdale but I might head on down to Tempe and see Source Victoria at Yucca Tap Room. It could really go either way at this point.Anybody else have any other suggestions?

Video: Surfer Blood "Swim"

ElectricMustache is in danger of becoming a Surfer Blood "fanzine" if I don't watch it... Ahhh I don't care... I post'em as I see'em. Um... I gotta go find me a pair of those "tighty whities" BRB!

Surfer Blood Coming To Phoenix (Trunk Space)

This is very exciting news day for me. First I learn that YACHT and Washed Out are coming to town, together no less... THEN I learn that my hands down favorite of the year so far Surfer Blood are coming back to town on March 24th... Wha wha wha Wait a minute! That's the same day as YACHT and Washed Out!!!! ARRRRRRRGH!!!! What the hell am I going to do now? I guess I have a little under 2 months to perfect cloning. I bet I will get all carried away just like Michael Keaton in Multiplicity... YACHT & Washed Out Coming To Tempe March 24th

This is kinda a big deal! Just heard through the twittervine that YACHT and Washed Out are playing The Black Forrest Mill in Tempe on March 24th. You need to be there or be square, that is all I can say. I have a feeling this is going to be pretty epic so missing it would be worse than the time that you rounded up all of those cats and put them in the old broken fridge in your grandparents shed... You guys are sick yo!

Egyptian Hip Hop Are A Band To Watch

Up until 20 minutes ago I had never heard of Egyptian Hip Hop but I am glad I did because I like their music. They are from England not Egypt, and they sound more like our favorite chill wave artists than Hip Hop. They are only 17 and all of them are in College. They are obviously over achievers that we must keep an out for in case they want to steal our American women. Now that we have that out of the way check out these tracks I put here for you to listen at for awhile.

January's 5 Best Albums

This is a new thing I think I am going to do every month, my top 5 albums or so. But only from the month that we are in at any given time. Since this is January I guess this is a "best of the year" list as well. But that is just stupid and you are better than that. I have to admit I have not had a whole lot of time to listen to a whole lot of stuff. But the one album I seam to gravitate towards whenever I have a chance to listen is Astro Coast I can't seam to stop listening. It's just that freaking good. When I can pry myself away I either listen to Teen Dream or Transference. It's pretty amazing that we are just wrapping up January and there is already this much great stuff. I have high hopes for 2k10. See list after break...

Video: Broken Bells - "The High Road"

Here is the first video for the project from The Shin's James Mercer and producer extraordinaire Danger Mouse or as the collaboration is better known Broken Bells. The duo will release their self titled debut album on March 9th on Sony Records. I love this song and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Given Danger Mouses' previous collaborations, especially the project Gnarls Barkley with rapper Cee-Lo, Broken Bells should definitely be awesome.

Video: Basia Bulat "The Shore" on La Blogotheque

So I have made it about halfway through Basia Bulat's new album Heart of My Own that came out today and so far I can give it a super sized thumbs up... While I was listening to it I saw that La Blogotheque posted a video for "The Shore" so I had to post it because it's awesome and also "that's what we do here". Apparently they made this thing 2 years ago but Basia wanted them to keep it a secret, and they did. Sorta reminds me of the time that my next door neighbor "Uncle Stephen" asked me to "keep a secret", and I have for almost 25 years now!

ODDSAC Movie Trailer

Here is the trailer to the film ODDSAC, which is a collaboration between film director Danny Perez and Animal Collective. Just like everything Animal Collective does, any description I could give does not do it justice, so just watch. The film is set to premiere at the Sundance Film Festival tonight and New York and Chicago in March.

mp3: Lali Puna "Remember"

Lali Puna has a new album coming out on April 6th (her first in over 5 years) called Our Inventions. April is a super long time away but you can listen to the first single "Remember" to tide you over... you spoiled little brats!

Lali Puna -

New Music Tuesday: Beach House, Basia Bulat, Los Campesinos!, The Magnetic Fields

This week is jammed packed with awesome stuff. If you HAD to buy only ONE album today I would go with Beach House's Teen Dream. I got it a couple of weeks ago, I have listened to it at least two times a day ever since. Mike is pretty excited about Basia Bulat's Heart of My Own. Charlotte Gainsbourg is getting a TON of blogbuzz but I have only heard a couple of the tracks, I also hear good things about Los Campesinos! and The Magnetic Fields too. With so much stuff I suggest you just dive in head first and hope you don't end up paralyzed like your drunk Uncle Jack at last years family reunion at the deceptively shallow lake.

Check out the full list after the break...

mp3: The Tallest Man on Earth "King of Spain"

The Tallest Man on earth is definitely a liar but I still really like his music. You see I am a tolerant person. You can totally mess with me a whole lot as long as you make up for it with some sort of talent. Another example of this is the time that my friend Roberto stole my car, lit it on fire and drove it into a lake, but he was/is the best masseuse of feet I have ever met, so I didn't make a big deal out of the whole car thing.

The Tallest Man on Earth just signed to Dead Oceans and announced a new album called The Wild Hunt out April 12th. You can listen and download the first single "King of Spain" below.

Stream Midlake's Album "The Courage Of Others" At NPR

Back in 2006 I spent most of my days listening to the album The Trials Of Van Occupanther from Denton, TX band Midlake.  I love this album.  It's unbelievably great and if you've never listened to it before I highly recommend you do so.  It's been nearly four years but finally Midlake will release their follow up entitled Courage of Others on February 2nd via Bella Union.  I've been pretty excited to hear the new album since it was announced a few months back.  I was a little disappointed to see Phoenix New Times writer Jay Bennett give Midlake's latest effort such a negative review but really couldn't argue considering I hadn't heard any tracks from it.  Thankfully, you can stream the album in full over at NPR today.

I have to admit that Courage of Others doesn't immediately grab you like The Trials Of Van Occupanther does and it has a much darker tone but is most definitely not deserving of the negative review it got in the New Times.

Listen for yourselves and make up your own minds though.  I'd love to get some comments back on what you guys think of the album.

The Temper Trap Coming to The Clubhouse 4/15 Same Night as Yeasayer, EEK!

The Aussie band The Temper Trap are coming to Tempe's Clubhouse on April 15th. If you were a fan of the soundtrack for 500 Days of Summer you may remember the song "Sweet Disposition"? If not I have placed the video below for you. Unfortunately this whole shindig is the same night as Yeasayer at The Rhythm Room, couple that with the fact that I HATE The Clubhouse (for their Nazi parking racket, the place is OK) and Yeasayer is the clear winner for me, but I bet way more people go see Temper Trap, because they were on a soundtrack to a shitty movie and tweens love bands that are on soundtracks to shitty movies.

mp3: Caribou - "Odessa"

Here is the first mp3 from Caribou's new album Swim.  The album will be released April 20th (420 dudes!) on Merge Records.

Xiu Xiu Coming to Tempe

Former Ghosts at The Trunk Space 10-2-09-23

A few weeks ago when Xiu Xiu announced their upcoming tour I was pretty disappointed that they were not coming to the Valley of the Sun. Alternatively when I heard the news that they have in fact added a stop in Tempe at the Sail Inn on March 15th I have become very excited! I love their new album Dear God, I Hate Myself that comes out on Feb 23rd. Tickets to the show are only $12 and you can get them HERE

Wilco Offering Two Free Show Downloads In Support For Haiti

Wilco posted two shows for for free download on their website and ask that in exchange for the free music you donate at least $15 to support relief efforts in Haiti.  Sounds pretty reasonable to me.  You can find more info at Wilco's website here.

A.A. Bondy Live @ The Rhythm Room [ElectricMustache Live]

A.A. Bondy @ The Rhythm Room 1-13-2010 (18 of 21)

We here at the ElectricMustache.com internet website are striving to bring our dear readers and twitter followers more interesting and exclusive content in 2k10 and since nobody is actually sending any exclusive content to anywhere but PitchFork we have to make it ourselves in cooperation with talented musicians like A.A. Bondy who cordially allowed us to film/tape his performance at The Rhythm Room last week. Our newest employee Seth Coleman of Fast Goat Productions is the (very tall) man behind the camera and also the person who edits all the footage together via Final Cut Pro on his MacBook Pro (he is a PRO!)

While you are watching these short music films you might think to yourself "Hey, these are kinda dark and hard to see kinda". I can reply to your internal monologue with this... It was kinda dark at The Rhythm Room, and we didn't think it would be very chill to shine a bright ass light into Mr. Bondy's face the whole time thus ruing the "whole thing" for everybody. And plus it's looks so much like it was when we were really there it's like really being there. Please enjoy them responsibly... after the break.

mp3: Grizzly Bear - "Boy From School" (Hot Chip Cover)

I think I've seen this posted on just about every music blog I visit regularly and I hate to be left out of the crowd.  Grizzly Bear recently made a visit to the Triple J Radio show in Australia where they played a few tunes including this cover of Hot Chip's "Boy From School."  You can take a listen to the track down below.

mp3: She & Him - "In the Sun"

Pitchfork just posted a new mp3 from M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel or as their musical project is better know She & Him.  The duo will release their second album, entitled Volume Two, on Merge Records on March 23rd.

mp3: Method Man, Ghostface and Raekwon "Our Dreams"

Unless you REALLY keep track of everything every member of the Wu-Tang Clan does it's pretty hard to know what the hell is going on with all those dudes. So I rely on other people that have way more time than me to do that kind of stuff then I just basically steal it from their sites and post it here. But I always post a link about where I got it from, so it's not really stealing right? That's what I thought, now go back to sleep, you look really tired bro.

The Vice Guide To Liberia

Okay, so this is in no way music related at all but I really wanted to share with you guys something that has continued to blow my mind for the past three days.

In terms of places I'd like to visit one day I would put the African country of Liberia waaayyyy down on the list.  In fact, after knowing what I know now I would probably pay good money to make sure I never go there.  I have to admit that before Tuesday I was pretty ignorant about the history and current situation of Liberia, but all of that was about to change thanks to Vice Magazine.  Vice, who has a sister site called VBS.tv which produces original video content on the regular, recently traveled to Liberia as part of their travel series to shed some light on Liberia's situation.  And what a situation it is.  So far Vice has only posted 3 episodes of its 8 part series on Liberia online but already I've seen things that I wish I could forget.

In roughly about 15 minutes of video they've already shown rampant poverty, unimaginable living conditions, corrupt police, child junkies, cannibalism and government that just doesn't really seem to give a shit.  Did I mention that there are still 5 more episodes to go?

I embeded a preview of the series above and you can catch the first three episodes posted online here.  The whole thing is absolutely incredible and is definitely worth watching.

Video: EELS "End Times"

Well I told you that today was going to be an all video day, the EELS are making a comeback, unless of course in your heart they never left. You can get the EELS new album End Times by clicking on the album name just back there earlier in the sentence.

Video: The xx "VCR"

Some days you just want to post videos, usually those days are Fridays but today is also one of those days. I HATE mp3's today! The xx made one of my favorite albums of the year last year and this is one of the best songs from XX, and as a bonus I have posted a fan made video for "VCR" that you can view after the break and then leave a comment on what one you think is better... you know, in the comments section.

Aziz Ansari's Big Night Out With Kanye

We contractually have to post this. It's from the same album that is only $3.99 on Amazon right now that we have told you about so many times... Did you get it yet? Well you should.

Harlem Coming to Phoenix (via Trunkspace) Feb 18th

Harlem (the band) is coming to Phoenix's the Trunk Space on Feb 18th. They have a new album coming out in April called Hippies that has been compiling a lot of blog buzz over the last couple of month so we will probably be seeing them before they blow up huger than Mike's prostate. Tix are only $8 and you can get them HERE.

Free Ninjasonik Mixtape... Stricktly 4 My Hipstaz

I have been "on board" with Ninjasonik for a long time now and when I heard they released a mix tape of remixes of other peoples songs along with some of their own songs and songs they are on along with other people I downloaded it and imported it into my iTunes, then synced it to my iPhone and have been listening to it via my Shure headphones for like 35 mins now. And for 35 mins everything in my life has been 27% better. I don't know if it's because of this mixtape but I really don't think it was because I paid $10 for a chicken Caesar Salad at Boston Market... I am just saying. Download that shit HERE! Keep Your Eyes On The Lil Daggers

Here at the 'stache we get a lot of stuff emailed/mailed to us, most of the time it is total garbage city/crap town but every once in a blue moon we get something totally bad ass. If you don't know where I am going with this already I am trying to tell you we got some tracks from Lil Daggers, a band out of Miami Florida that in the span of a few short hours have become very fond of. So fond in fact that I am making it one of my personal goals to turn them into a buzzband in 2010. I am not really sure how to go about doing that so if you could retweet this and digg/reddit it (you can do that below the post yo) I am sure it would go a long way. You should obviously listen/download the tracks below first to make sure you are "on board" with this whole thing but I think you will be.

Lil Daggers -
"King Korpze"

Lil Daggers -
"Ya Tu Sabe"

Lil Daggers -
"Hungry"

Lil Daggers -

I am also trying to get a MIDI version so you can play it on virtually any computer from school to your public library's AV room, as long as you have the floppy disc with you.
