Video: Mastodon "Divinations" on Fallon

Like I have said before and will always say Mastodon transcend genres. They do this so they can melt the faces of more people with their glorious powers they received from satan in exchange for their souls...Happy Halloween and see you at The Marquee on Nov 17th

The Antlers Do Daytrotter

It may not be a secret that I am in love with The Antlers Hospice but what I have learned over the last few weeks is kinda disturbing me. Lot's of people also like Hospice so many in fact that it was already names album of the year (so far) by NPR. That is NOT the disturbing part though...wait for it...some people DON'T like The Antlers because they "Don't get it" or "It's weird" or "They sound weird" or "This shit is depressing me" (that one I get though). I don't know if the songs they just recorded for Daytrotter are going to do any "mind changing" but I love them even more now. Listen to my favorite song on Hospice "The Kettering" below. Click HERE for the other three songs and a nice little article.

Seawolf is Playing Modified Arts Tonight & Release a New Video

I like the fact that Seawolf release their new spooky video the day before Halloween and also that it comes out the day they are playing here in Phoenix. I guess it just heightens the excitement a little more right? Am I just being weird? Do they sound a lot like Arcade Fire? Do you think it will be packed tonight? Do these pants make me look fat? These are all questions we can talk about over some beers...tonight...at Modified...TONIGHT!!!

Photos: Dirty Projectors & Golden Boots @ The Rhythm Room

Dirty Projectors at The Rhythm Room 10-28-09 (18 of 54)

I am not going to sit here and tell you that the Dirty Projectors didn't put on one of the best shows I have ever seen...because they did. I am ALSO not going to sit here and tell you these are the best pics I have ever taken...because they are not. But they don't suck so check some out after the break and the rest of the set on our Flickr page HERE.

Video: Talk Normal "In a Strangeland"

I am getting into some pretty serious stuff here folks. This video is intense and would probably be a pretty good anthem for any aspiring dictators out there. So when the next Kim Jung Ill shows up we will all know who to blame...Talk Normal...whose album Sugarland just came out on Rare Book Room Records on 10/27.

Tonight In Phoenix: Dirty Projectors, Golden Boots,

I will not be attending the Dirty Projectors show tonight at Rhythm Room.  I'm all old and shit and I've only got one show a week in me.  But, if you are young and energetic or at least young at heart than you should go to this show.  Dirty Projectors are seriously awesome and produced one of my favorite albums of the year in Bitte Orca.  Tucson's finest Golden Boots open the show.

Just can't get enough of Golden Boots?  Then it's your lucky day!   Golden Boots will be playing a free show at Stinkweeds at 5 pm.

If you're more into hanging with some screaming tweens instead of those crazy hipsters you can check out Cobra Starship tonight at Marquee Theatre.  The Maine, A Rocket To The Moon, and VersaEmerge open the show.

You can also catch Gym Class Heroes and The Last Good Year will be performing at Tempe Beach Park as part of homecoming for ASU.  Craig Robinson aka Darryl from The Office will be performing his live stand-up act.  I bet he's got a bunch of funny Steve Carrel joke.

Finally, if you want to be soooo Raven.  You can catch Raven Symone at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

I have been waiting for something new from Lightspeed Champion for awhile now...and this video is relevant to my interests.

Peaches @ The Clubhouse 10/27/09

Have you seen that movie with Micheal Keaton, where he clones himself a bunch of times so he can get more shit done? I think it's called Batman or something right? No? Me either, but I totally feel like that now...Since I was at the Kurt Vile show I couldn't go to Peaches, but someone did...I would like to introduce the first "Contributing Member" to join the Electric Mustache team since we started. Her name is Laina McWhorter and she takes pictures. So now you are going to get double the amount of pictures because the 'Stache can be in two places at once now...fuck you Multiplicity! Check out the rest of the shots after the break.

mp3: Pants Yell! "Cold Hands"

I am a semi fan of things with "pants" in the name and I just adore exclamation points!!! So when I got the press release about this here mp3 track off of their upcoming album Received Pronunciation I saw their name Pants Yell! and said "Hey that's a good name but they sure look like a pack of dorks in a Bugle Boy commercial" But I listened to the song "Cold Hands" and decided to Google a better picture, one with one of them smoking.

Tonight In Phoenix/Tempe: Kurt Vile, Peaches & Sole & The Skyrider Band

Tonight is a tough one...what should we do, what should we do? Well WE are going to do Kurt Vile and the Violators (7:30 at Modified Arts $10), but that is because it's closer and also a school night. But I wouldn't think less of you for going to see Peaches (8:30 @ The Clubhouse $20) or Sole & The Skyrider Band (8:30 at The Rhythm Room $12). But I WILL think less of you for going to the Chevelle show at the Marquee....I don't care that you don't have an iPod port or Sirius radio in your car, friends don't let friend's listen to FM 103 or go to Chevelle concerts!!!

New Music Tuesday: Tegan and Sara, Swell Season, Devendra Banhart, Broadcast and More

Well this week doesn't bring us 862 new albums but the ones that ARE coming out today have a certain panache to them that tickles my twin fetish gene... Tegan & Sara I don't really have one of those so you can totally come over whenevs and just chill.

If you like Wilco (or fucking LOVE them) and have a record player and some extra cash then purchasing the reissue of Being There on super thick n' heavy 180 gram vinyl sounds like something a person of your tastes would be into in a major way.Check out the full list of new releases (I could find) after the break/Tegan & Sara song...

I am really sorry that it took me so long to post these here pictures but the Lightroom 3 beta I thought we be super cool to download and try for the first time tonight is a total piece of shit. So take your anger out on Adobe not me please...thanks.

Check out Frances Michelle Lopez's great review in the New Times and as always check out a few more shots after the break and the whole lot on our Flickr's

I have been listening to Hospice pretty incessantly the last couple of weeks so any Antlers material I can get my digital hands on makes for a happy Shawn.

Videos: The Mumlers Live @ The Rhythm Room

So I have been pretty busy making some cosmetic changes to the site and totally forgot to post these videos from The Mumlers show at The Rhythm Room the other night...my bad. Goddamn they are so good...you totally missed it, if you...you know...missed it. "Red River Hustle" and "Don't Throw Me Away" after the break.

Video: Hawnay Troof "Body Armageddon"

This video is totally fucking with my braincicles. Makes me wish I had a mac with Final Cut on it. I bet I could make some pretty brain crushing music videos...have you not seen those sweet sweet vids I take at shows? Oh wait they suck...well that is because I don't have a mac with Final Cut on it...right?

The new Hawnay Troof album Daggers At The Moon Out is out NOW (get it HERE) and it is really good if you like that sort of thing...You can also catch Vice Cooler in Phoenix at The Trunk Space on 11/9

mp3: Field Music "Measure"...Also A New Album Details

Field Music have a new double album coming out on Feb 16 2010 (2010 soooo weird) called Measure and for your pleasure I present to you the title track below...Nothing better than waiting four months for an album to come out...am I right?

Tonight in Phoenix: BLACK HEART PROCESSION THE MUMLERS & TURN BACK, O MAN

I assure you that tonight you are going to definitely want to head on out to The Rhythm Room. Three excellent bands are playing...Black Heart Procession and The Mumlers (NOT MumBlers) both from Cali with local boys Turn Back O Man opening up. According to Stateside this is NOT an all ages show so that means we can smoke AND drink on the patio, thus making me super excited. Tix WERE $14 but now they are $15

Video: Former Ghosts "Hold On"

If you have not heard of Former Ghosts yet then you are missing out on some good shit. I had the oportunity so see them a couple weeks ago and they knocked my socks off (or maybe I forgot I had sandles on). This is the official first video from their new album Fleurs that comes out TODAY. (Looks like it's sold out already...damn) The song is called "Hold On" and it is eerily similar to my typical Sunday routine...get up, walk around and drink till I vomit, wear a v-neck cardigan. You know, normal shit.

If you like the official version of "Hold On" you might also like the video I took a couple weeks ago, it sounds much shittier if you like that sort of thing...check it out after the break...

New Music Tuesday: Atlas Sound, White Denim,Sufjan & Much More!

Well here we go again with another week of massive amounts of new releases. From Atlas Sound's Logos to a Pixies boxed set that only costs $630 I think you will be able to find something that will sound good in your shitty iPod headphones. Check out the full list after the break.

Monday, October 19, 2009

Tonight In Phoenix: Dearspeak @ The Big Fish Pub

Dearspeak...the retardedly (not a real word) excellent band from right here in Phoenix are playing a free show tonight at the Big Fish Pub in Tempe, and unless you are going to see KMFDM with a bunch of weirdos you should really be going to this show. If you don't believe me watch this video...or something.

Video: Thao with The Get Down Stay Down - "When We Swam"

Shawn, my partner in crime here at the 'Stache, is probably going to be super pissed that I'm posting this video instead of him. You know, since he's the only one allowed to like Thao Nguyen. But I don't care. He's being a jerk today anyways. But enough about us. Here is the video for "When We Swam" from Thao and The Get Down Stay Down from the bands latest album Know Better Learn Faster, which is out now on Kill Rock Stars.

RSVP for "The Desert Bender" with Kinch

If there are three things I like in this world it's open bars, staying up late on a school night and Kinch. If you like even two of these things then it would be in your best interests to RSVP for this most choice event out good friend Stephen Chilton is throwing this Wednesday at The Black Forrest Mill. The event is being sponsored by Vice and Hornitos so you know debauchery will probably ensue...a lot.

RSVP HERE

Video: Girls "Laura"

I tried posting this video a few days ago when it came out but I could not find a version that would let me embed the damn thing. But I found one on this small niche video hosting site called Youtube or something like that. Girls Album is shaping up to be in my top 5 of the year. Initially I thought that some the songs were really good and some were just ok...the more I listen to it MOST of the songs are awesome and a couple are just really good. "Laura" is one of the awesome ones. And like my my always said "Videos with partial nudity make songs better...for Jesus".

More Girls

Video: Arctic Monkeys "Cornerstone"

This video makes me think that if I had a good band and some AV gear from the 70's I would be able to make a sweet music video. The only problem I can foresee is finding such a shitty sweater, those other things should be easy.

mp3: Christy & Emily "Lover's Talk"

Have you all ever heard of Christy & Emily? Are they new? I have never heard of them until today but I am digging this new song. It's kinda like a spacey tripped out version of Jenny Lewis. If that is your kind of thing check check it out.

Photos: The Pods @ Modified Arts 10/13/09

The Pods @ Modified Arts 10-13-09-16

As promised earlier I present to you photographic evidence proving to you that I took pictures of The Pods last night at Modified Arts when they opened up for the Vivian Girls. There are a few more after the break and a lot more on our Flickr page HERE

Tonight in Phoenix: Elliott Brood, Yo La Tengo, BLK JKS, Ghostface Killah and Dry River Yacht Club

Well tonight is another "Night of a Million Shows"! We are going to Elliott Brood at The Rhythm Room, but that is because we love Canada. You might want to go to Yo La Tengo at The Marquee, BLK JKS at Modified Arts, Ghostface Killah at The Clubhouse or even Dry River Yacht Club at Yucca Tap Room. The choice is yours but don't fuck up your life by sitting on your couch all night...nerd.

RIP, Captain Lou Albano

Total bummer.

VivianGirlsThree

Vivian Girls were awesome last night. Check out the New Times review from Becky Bartkowski HERE (They incorrectly credited Mike with that photo...it was me UPDATE: They fixed it, thanks!) Opening bands The Pods and Chandails were also pleasing to my ears. I will have the pictures I took of them up later tonight so check back later.

Bunch more pics of the Vivian Girls after the break and you can check out the whole set on our Flickr page HERE.

Video: The Flaming Lips "Watching the Planets" on Conan

You would think that Wayne would have changed his whole "suit with no tie" look by now. New album's should come with a new look right? I guess I just like change...Obama did it to me.

mp3: Capgun Coup "Bad Bands"

The Capgun Coup are from Omaha but they sound like they are from San Diego. They sound good but do you think they would be even better if they moved to Oceanside or someplace like that? If I was in an "Indie Surf" band the first thing I would do is move to the fucking beach as soon as possible.

Check out "Bad Bands" the first single of their upcoming album MAUDLIN that comes out Nov 3rd on Team Love.

Full Disclosure For Bloggers

I'm sure most folks think that the life of a music blogger is all glitz and glamor. In fact, I bet you guys think Shawn and I just sip champaign with 50 Cent all day and eat caviar with Paris Hilton while getting manicures. Well, I'm here to tell you that is most certainly not the case. Being a music blogger is a hard, thankless job full of long hours and attending an endless stream of concerts. If all that wasn't bad enough, now Uncle Sam wants to take another bite out of our asses.  According to a recent story from Mashable:
"The FTC has updated its Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising for the first time since 1980, and among the changes, a requirement that “bloggers who make an endorsement must disclose the material connections they share with the seller of the product or service.” Fines for violating the new rule will run up to $11,000 per post."
Now, fortunately-or unfortunately depending on how you look at it-we've only ever received a handful of CDs and mp3s, so there isn't much to disclose.  And, honestly, we hardly review anything on this site.

But!  And this is a big but, mind you, that does not mean that we are not totally willing to whore ourselves out in exchange for free goods and/or services.

Hurry, though!  December 1st is right around the corner and all those products aren't going to review themselves.

Tonight in Phoenix: Vivian Girls at Modified Arts

If you are just sitting down at your computer after a long days work and want to go see some good music being played in a smelly environment then may I suggest the Vivian Girls? They shall be rocking out with no cocks out (not theirs anyway) at Modified Arts sometime around 8pm and the tickets cost somewhere between $8 and $15... I am guessing since it isn't listed anywhere. See you there kids.

Dead Man's Bones REALLY Know How to Promo

If you remember a lil bit ago I posted a promo video for Dead Man's Bones at the time upcoming album...it was super spooky and was really cool. Well NOW they just released a promo video for their upcoming tour...that dog is the balls.

Video: Grizzly Bear "Two Weeks" on Conan

You have to get up pretty early in the morning to beat some other blogs to the punch on the previous nights Hulu videos dontcha? Ehhh...you might have already viewed this performance of "Two Weeks" by Grizzly Bear last night on the Tonight Show but it's really good so you might as well watch it again. Victoria Legrand really does take this song into the upper stratosphere of awesomeness right?

New Music Tuesday: The Flaming Lips, Thao, Neon Indian, Andrew Jackson Jihad

Obviously the big huge release this week is Embryonic via The Flaming Lips, and it deserves to be because it is fucking awesome and great...but there are also some other really good albums coming out today. And it is kinda nice that there isn't a shit ton as many coming out this week as there has been for the last month or so... so why don't you just go ahead and buy them all then? Don't be a loser, your hard drive can take it.

The Flaming Lips - Embryonic
Thao - Know Better Learn Faster
Andrew Jackson Jihad - Can't Maintain
Fanfarlo - Reservoir
Imaad Wasif - The Voidist
Neon Indian - Psychic Chasms

Stream: Band of Skulls "Friends"

Band of Skulls at Modified Arts 8/1/2009

Speaking of the New Moon soundtrack that leaked today the Band of Skulls are also on there with a new song called "Friends". They are probably one of the lesser known bands on the OST but they are great and so is this song. SO SUCK IT!

Band of Skulls "Friends" from New Moon OST

Video: Mayer Hawthorne - "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out"

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be seriously late on this one, but being that Mayer Hawthorne will be performing this Wednesday with Ghostface at The Clubhouse, I figure this gives me a good excuse to post this video. I've seen a few instances we're people have gone on record saying that Mayer Hawthorne's A Strange Arrangement is the best album of the year. I wouldn't go that far, but it is definitely worth a listen.

Anyone else think Mayer Hawthorne and Ghostface Killah is strange combination? Two very talented people, no doubt, but a bit of a weird mixture if you ask me.

Stream: Bon Iver + St Vincent - "Roslyn"

When I first heard that my two favorite musicians, Bon Iver and St. Vincent, we're teaming up to collaborate on a song I had a veritable joygasm. When I saw that the two were collaborating on a song for the soundtrack for the new Twilight movie I had a bit of a hipster-crisis. Can I or should I like something that is associated with Twilight. Truth be told, I'm the least hip person in the world, so this really should be a non issue, but even so Twilight is such awful tween drivel that I wondered why this couldn't be for a new Spike Jonze or Wes Anderson movie instead. But, if Justin Vernon and Annie Clark with it then so am I.

Thanks to the New Moon soundtrack being leaked to the internet you and I can both enjoy the song "Roslyn" from Bon Iver and St. Vincent. I honestly love this track. Clark and Vernon can both do no wrong in my book.

Enjoy!

Video: The Decemberists "The Rake's Song"

It's about time they made a video for this song. I guess touring non stop for a year or so leaves little time for making vids

Video: Camera Obscura - "The Sweetest Thing"

Glasgow indie-popsters Camera Obscura didn't invite us to yet another costume party of theirs. We don't know what we ever did to them, but we're sorry. ANYWAY, here is the video for "The Sweetest Thing" which comes off of Camera Obscura's latest album My Maudlin Career which is available now on 4AD.

mp3: Young Friends "Riverside Kids" & "Make Out Point"

Young Friends @ Modified Arts 10-9-09-13

So I had the unexpected pleasure of catching a new, really good Phoenix band at Modified Arts last Friday (check the pics HERE). They go by the "search engine ambiguous" name of The Young Friends. For the time being their name is very accurate since they are both young AND presumably friends. So young in fact I am pretty sure one if not both of them are still in High School. Their EP NORTH END/SOUTH END is available for a free download from their label Holiday Records, just click HERE. Check out a couple of tracks off of that very EP below.

You can catch the duo (Andrew McKee & Brant Stuns) at The Trunk Space tonight opening for City Center (another search engine ambiguous name) out of Brooklyn.

Woods on Daytrotter

I like Woods. After seeing them at The Rhythm Room earlier this year I REALLY liked them. So when I checked my feed reader today and saw that they did a Daytrotter session I was pretty excited. When I saw that they did three previously unreleased songs I got REALLY REALLY excited.

Daytrotter has consistently done the best job of getting excellent bands into their recording lair for sessions. Not to take anything away from the likes of Black Cab Sessions, La Blogotheque and LaundroMatinee or anything because they are also fucking great. But Daytrotter is ahead by a slight margin even without video.

Woods -

- unreleased

Woods -
"Suffering Season (Daytrotter Session)"

- unreleased

Woods -
"Time Fading Lines (Daytrotter Session)"

- unreleased

Woods -
"Where And What Are You? (Daytrotter Session)"

- original version appears on Songs of Shame

Video: Dead Man's Bones "Dead Hearts"

This is a seriously trippy video from Dead Man's Bones for their song "Dead Hearts". The song is on their self titled debut album that just came out a couple days ago. It has got to be nice to be in a band and have all of that "Lars and the Real Girl money" to put into making sweet/creepy videos. I think every band should try to get a successful actor to join their band...or at least finance it. I wonder if they found that machine with the wishbone and decided to make a video out of it or if it was custom made.

Video: Lenny Kravitz + Justice - "Let Love Rule"

I was a little bothered by how nonchalant this guy was after shooting some guy right between the eyes. I mean, he blows this guy away and is all smiles and smooches with his girlfriend. But, it's easy to not give a shit about life and all its problems when you're listening to this sweet remix of Lenny Kravitz's classic "Let Love Rule" by Justice. Don't believe me? You go rescue your kidnapped girlfriend and blow away the villain of your movie, strap on your headphones and just feel those troubles melt away.

Photos and Videos: Deer Tick @ The Rhythm Room 10/7/2009

Deer Tick @ The Rhythm Room 10-6-09 (19 of 79)

So if you didn't know... the Deer Tick show was last night. It was more bomb than Ben Affleck in Phantoms and as we all know that is pretty fucking bomb. They ripped through a shit load of their hits as well as some pretty bomb ass covers such as "Break Down", "With A Little From My Friends" and "La Bamba". As far as I could tell the 99% over 21 crowd had a great fucking time complete with sing alongs and gentle back rubs.

Check out some photos and videos I was able to digitally capture after the break and if you so choose you can check out the rest of the pics on our Flickr page HERE and more videos on our Youtube page HERE I am still working on tagging the rest of the videos so if you know the names leave a comment why don't cha?

Video: Clare and the Reasons "All The Wine"

This video from Clare and the Reasons looks like it was made in 1997. Are we already at a time when 1997 is retro? Maybe the director is from Canada or something and they just got greenscreen there.

Video: The Sky Drops "Stone White"

This is a video from self described "gaze-grunge" duo Rob Montejo and Monika Bullette, they make up The Sky Drops and they are from Delaware. I have watched the video once now and it's kinda freaking me out. It is what I would imagine my parents looked like when they were kids...well I guess my parents could really look like anybody... I wouldn't know...I was adopted.

Stream The Raveonettes "In And Out Of Control"

If you want to, and you should, stream The Raveonettes In And Out Of Control
and if you like it then you can buy it, since it came out today. Isn't the internet great?

mp3: Tegan & Sara "Hell"

This is a jamming new rock song from Tegan & Sara. Apparently they have a new album coming out in a couple of week called Sainthood and this is a song from it. I have been sapped of anything clever to say today so I will leave you with a quote from my friend Ryan "Ughh Dude, I don't know...so much pressure" Um.... I guess that is why we havn't seen any updates on YourBrainsMyFloor.com recently?.... OH, ZING!

New Music Tuesday: The xx, Kurt Vile, Built to Spill, Music Go Music

There has been a steady barrage of excellent new releases coming week after week and this week is no different. A couple of albums I have been listening to for awhile now, The xx and Music Go Music's debut albums are probably going to be in my top 15ish this year and even though I just got Built To Spill's There Is No Enemy this morning, so far it's really good. Check out the full list after the break.

Video: Loney Dear "I Was Only Going Out"

Here is a nice little ditty from Sweden's own Loney Dear. I am familiar with many of the images from the video... Walking around in a bathrobe with a confused look on my face. Except I wasn't so much "walking" as I was "running" and it was more of a straight jacket kind of thing (it was exactly a straight jacket) than a robe. Oh and it wasn't the city it was in a nice place "out in the country".

GOD DAMMIT MOM!!! Masturbating to Animal Planet is totally normal!

mp3: Vampire Weekend - "Horchata"

Vampire Weekend just recently announced their sophomore album, Contra, will be released this January. In order to keep all you hipsters salivating in anticipation the band made the album opener "Horchata" available as a free download on their website today. You can download the mp3 for free at their website by submitting your e-mail address or you can really stick it to the man and download it here with no e-mail submitting. Your choice.

Contra will be out January 12th from XL Recordings.

WIN TIX to Deer Tick Tomorrow @ The Rhythm Room

I know that the economy is pretty shitty right now and that you might not have the extra cash chillin in your pockets for awesome band performances on a Tuesday night so we have made arrangements for two pairs of tickets (name on guest list actually) for Deer Tick at The Rhythm Room tomorrow Tuesday, Oct 5th 2009 (In the Year of Our Lord Jesus Christ). This will allow you to go SEE and HEAR them play songs off their fabulous new album Born on Flag Day AND have a few dollars left over for $1.50 PBRs.

The first two people to contact us in ANYWAY AT ALL will be the lucky winners. You can leave a comment, send us and email, tweet us, myspace us, leave a comment on our shitty facebook page...whatever method makes you feel more comfortable.

This show is happening in PHOENIX  ARIZONA... TOMORROW, so please make sure you can make it before attempting to win.....now ready...set....GO!!!!!!!!!!

Video: These United States "Everything Touches Everything"

My bearded amigos These United States have a bitchin new video for title track of their most recent album Everything Touches Everything I think there in an analogy in there about befriending your enemy will set you free... or something like that. Plus it has a sweet corn solo...what?

Photos: Former Ghosts and The One AM Radio @ The Trunk Space

Former Ghosts at The Trunk Space 10-2-09-18

Last night was my first trip to The Trunk Space so going in I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. The place itself it really cool, they have a coffee bar, used records, art hanging on the wall and on overall vibe I would describe as "chilln' so hard". It was the perfect venue for Former Ghosts and The One AM Radio to play. They are both far from your run of the mill indie music.

Former Ghosts is just two guys utilizing a combination of different instruments and a Mac book to create a huge haunting sound that several people commented afterwords that they couldn't believe that only two people were creating that sound.

The One AM Radio sounds like a combination of The Postal Service, a tinge of Arcade Fire and a little Jesus & Mary Chain that come together into something very much their own creation.

Overall I really excellent show. I would recommend picking up Former Ghosts debut Fleurs album when it comes out on Oct 20th, and The One AM Radio has a couple of albums out already that you can check out HERE

I am serving up some pictures of the show after the break and maybe even a video or two (I was a little to close to the speakers with the video camera so some of the audio gets a little distorted at times). Check out the rest of the pictures on our Flickr page HERE and the rest of videos on our Youtube page HERE

Video: The Dodos "Fables"

For your Friday enjoyment I present to you the first video from The Dodo's EXCELLENT new album Time to Die. The song is "Fables" and you have maybe probably heard the song but the video is a really good demonstration of how they play live. Just smash that recording studio with 300 people and you would have Modified Arts a couple of days ago.

Modifest Returns This November To Modified Arts

Outside Modified-3

We are all still coming to terms with the fact that Modified Arts will be switching directions and no longer hosting indie shows.  But before we put that final nail in the coffin there is still one last show we can look forward to at Modified Arts.

This November Modified Arts will be host to Modifest, a three-day music showcase featuring some of the best music acts Phoenix has to offer.   It'll cost you $5 to get in, but all the proceeds will go to a youth group at Phoenix Public Library.

I think it's pretty appropriate that Modified Arts go out hosting a show like this and will be very much looking forward to attending.

Full lineup of bands performing after the jump.

Videos: Lullabye Arkestra Series of Covers

So I have been following Lullabye Arkestra, this really cool band out of Canada for a couple month now and I just came across this four video series they did of covers. They range from George Gershwin to Napalm Death. I think that is about the broadest ranges of covering I have seen in a while. All the videos have some talking about why they cover the song but it doesn't last to long before the music starts. Check out the other three after the break.

The Mumlers on Daytrotter

The Mumlers are one of my favorite new bands, I would say favorite NEW bands because I just heard about them about a month ago. But they have been around a few years so I would imagine people might take umbrage to me calling them "new" but they are "new to me" so fuck it.

We had the exclusive premier on their video for Coffin Factory back in August and it has received an absurd amount of well deserved love in the comments section on youtube.

They dropped by Daytrotter to lay down some acoustic tracks, a couple from their new album Don't Throw Me Away and their last album Thickets & Stitches Check them out below yo.

Tonight In Phoenix: Former Ghosts at First Friday and Ingrid Michaelson

Tonight you have a couple of options...You can head on down to First Friday and check out that whole wonderful extravaganza and while you are there check out Former Ghosts at The Trunk Space. I have been listening to their album Fleurs all morning and it's getting better and better. It doesn't come out for another couple of weeks but who know you might be able to snag a copy at the show. Not sure how much the tickets are but it starts around 8:30.

The other option you have is going on in wonderful Old Town Scottsdale at Martini Ranch. sweater commercial singer Ingrid Michaelson will be performing for a shit ton of girls that like Gossip Girl and the boyfriends they dragged with them. I kid, I really like Ingrid Michaelson but I just don't think I can bring myself to hang out in Martini Ranch while First Friday is happening. Show starts at 7:30 and Tix are $17, (available HERE) if you are planning on going I would suggest buying tickets now, I have a feeling this one is going to sell out.

Dodos at Modified 9-30-09-8

I am a little late on this one everybody everybody, but better late than never right? Wednesday at Modified Arts was like nothing I have ever seen there. It was so goddamn packed people were practically sitting on top each whist sitting on the stage( I was taking pictures while straddling a guy shooting video on the stage ramp), since it sold out before I even got there at 8pm the amount of people left "entranceless" we relegated to peering in through the glass door on the side of the stage. There were more people watching from outside at this show than even show up to shows sometimes. I never thought I would see the day when Jeremiah from Stateside would be playing bouncer at the stage door to keep the gatecrashers out.

As for the performances themselves Miniature Tigers keep getting better and better every time I see them. The Ruby Suns sounded good despite the obvious technical problems they were having with their barrage of electronic equipment. The night belonged to The Dodos though. By the time they took the stage the excitement from being smashed into a hot smelly (yea the sewage smell is back...yea!!!) room with 300 of your closest friends had reached a fever pitch. And they didn't disappoint.

Check out some pictures after the break and they rest from that night on our Flickr page HERE

Video: Imaad Wasif "Redeemer" NSFW (kinda)

I really like the way videos are going these days...you know, with all the nudity and sex and nude sex etc... It is even better when the video comes attached with really good music, kinda like a "sound bonus" or something. I have a feeling Imaad Wasif is a force to be reckoned with in the near future. With his new album The Voidist coming out on 10/13 via Tee Pee plus the fact that he has the looks, the talent AND the balls to have to boobs in his video (blurry or not).

Video: The Bravery "Hatefuck"

I am not the biggest Bravery fan in the world but I am a sucker for songs with "fuck" in the title. Plus, if you are willing to make a soft core porn starring your sister and brother in law you are ok in my book. My book of "That is fucking sick dude" obviously.

Video: Black Lips "Let It Grow"

I feel like crap today but I was checking my emails and low and behold the Black Lips have a new video. I am surprised Wavves doesn't have a new video also. That would confirm my sneaking suspicion that the whole "fight" thing was a big publicity stunt. In the TMZ world we now living in if there is no video or at least photos it didn't happen. Even if there are videos or pictures it was probably staged.

But at least the video is good right? Aside from the blatant cat abuse that is. Share your thoughts.

Video: The Roots - "How I Got Over"

Love this new video from The Roots for their song "How I Got Over", which comes from their latest album of the same name. I still can't wrap my head around why these guys would want to be the house band for Jimmy Fallon. Except for when Jimmy Fallon hosted Weekend Update on SNL he is the most unfunny dude in America. Remember Taxi with Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah? Worst movie EVER!

How I Got Over
is out October 20th from Def Jam.

Photos: Bon Iver and Megafaun @ Mesa Arts Center (9/29/09)

There was no shortage of shows that you could have gone and saw this past Tuesday night.  Any one of them would have been a good choice considering the talented bands playing like Cave Singers, !!!, Portugal. The Man, and yes even Insane Clown Posse.  But,for me, the thought of going and seeing anyone other than Bon Iver never even entered my mind.  And, I was not disappointed.  In fact the Bon Iver show at the Mesa Arts Center actually exceeded my expectations.

This was my first ever show at Mesa Arts Center and holy sugar sticks is that place nice.  Our third row seats didn't hurt the experience, either.  The opening band, Megafaun, put on a great performance and managed to win over the crowd by playing some awesome music and showing a lot of love to Phoenix's own Dry River Yacht Club and local eatery Two Hippies Beach House.

I've made it pretty clear in previous posts that I am a huge Justin Vernon aka Bon Iver fan and have probably listened to his debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago, from start to finish so many times that I'm sure that even my iPod got sick of it.  To see the album that I've listened to so many times before by an artist who I consider to be the bees knees (and only ten feet away from me) was truly extraordinary.

Bon Iver puts on one helluva show and I can not wait until he swings back around.  By the way, he did mention that he will have a full orchestra next time around.

See the pics after the jump.
